Anxiety help...interesting

I had been suffering from anxiety all day. It felt like I was crawling out of my skin! I believe it was triggered by starbucks and Walmart this morning. I had been so terribly anxious all day...I took a benadryl to try and slow my brain down a bit and it didn't work. I would have taken valerian root but I can only take that at night as it makes me very sleepy. I made chocolate chip cookies with the kids to try and distract myself from myslelf and it was difficult. I didn't know what to do. Whenever I get like that I just have to ride it out and it's a terrible time. I anxiously ate a number of cookies and a couple of handfuls of nuts and after a few moments I suddenly felt so much better! My anxiety is gone. Seriously. I wonder if it has something to do with the fat and sugar? Very weird.

Wow, fascinating. Aren't our minds baffling? Now if you could just put that in a bottle and use it again later...

Doesn't surprise me at all. Sugar causes a serotonin spike, as does chocolate. However, I would also think that over time this type of behavior would make the problem worse not better in the long term. A steady blood sugar, and the nutrients that help your body make the brain chemicals you need is the best way to manage your anxiety with diet. Spikes and crashes will only make things worse.

Makes sense. It was definately a quick fix but not something that can be done for persistent anxiety. I don't typically eat a lot of sugar and I think that's why it worked so well this time. I used to eat A LOT with anxiety but am now medicated and not doing that anymore (and losing weight!).

non-organic coffee and white sugar makes me like that. I get soo edgy and nervous. My mind just races. I hate driving like that.

Cammomile, and st johns wort are good calm-downs. mint teas maybe too.
