I'm leaking!

I don't think my bow have completely ruptured, but there's definately a leak going on. No one knows yet and I'm thinking I might stay quiet about this (so I don't start any clocks!).

BUT, does this mean I can't labor in any tubs???? or the shower???

I think you are safe..I labored in the tub with my daughter after my water broke...

Happy birthing vibes to you mama!! Will be thinking of you today....

Ack! Good luck!

You're not "suppose" to labor in the tub. But you can still do the shower. Good luck!! Sending labor vibes your way!

Hurray!

Yeah I laboured standing in the shower but did not immerse myself in the tub (when water broke with dd#1) so as not to invite infection. Good vibes coming your way... :

Do you have a midwife? I'd double check with her.. I've only ever heard my ex-OB say that I couldn't take a bath once BOW had broken. I thought most midwives didn't take to that philosophy, though.

But happy labor vibes to you! Hopefully you will meet your little one soon

I've wondered the last few weeks about those who have waterbirths, or even just labor in the water until the very end. Obviously some of their waters break, I mean you'd think.

Anyhow, we went to the city today. Still leaking through the better part of it (can I TELL you how uncomfortable it is to walk around w/ a microfiber towl stuffed in your undies!!). Ctx have definately changed to the reeeeeally low type and were much more intense although only about 30sec and 10-15 min apart.

The leaking pretty much stopped tonight (lost tons of mucous all day too) so we made the decision not to go to the hospital as I didn't want to be put on the clock, and they weren't getting any longer and baby had been moving around throughout the day. So we made the 2hr drive home. I was tired and thought I could use a decent nights rest. Plus DH was pretty sure this wasn't the real deal. Now I'm wishing I would have followed my original instincts a bit better and gotten the hotel room.

So here I am at 2am. DH is snoring away and I'm up timing contractions. They're still only about 45sec and every 4-5 minutes, but the timing is a little troublesome being so far away. I really want to be sleeping, but true to form, they are just unbearable if I lay down.

Here's hoping for some baby news soon!!!

You can definatly labor in the tub with your water broke. Just make sure the tub is nice and clean and the water is as well. I had my water broken to induce labor well before ctx started but once they did I was allowed to jump right in the tub. The only rule I am aware of is no objects in the vagina after it breaks.

If you couldnt labor in water then water births wouldnt be possible.

I had a water birth with my oldest and have no idea when my water actually broke since I barely got out. With my youngest my water breaking was the start of labor but that didn't stop me from getting in the tub. I would have had a water birth with him too but I had to get out so he could be turned and he came too fast after that. This time I'm going for the water too! Just make sure that the tub/water is clean like the pp said. Also, to be on the safe side I'd probably clean the tub with natural cleaners even if you usually use chemicals but you might want to ask your caregiver about that or look it up online. I'm not sure if it would make a difference.

How exciting...sounds like things are really moving a long. Whether or not you can birth in water after you bow breaks will depend on where you are birthing. I know w/DS I wanted to be in the water the whole time...they told me as long as my water didn't break I would be fine. If it did I would have to get out. That was a hospital setting ....and luckily my bow didn't rupture until I started pushing.

Best Wishes.....look forward to hearing your story. Don't go to long w/ your bow leaking...you definately don't want to have a dry birth....but sounds like things are progressing quite well...and you may even be in more active labor now from the sounds of things.

With DD, I saw an OB, and I asked him ahead of time. He said it was fine to labor in the tub after my water broke. The day I went in for the induction, he broke my water first thing. I got in the tub - at the hospital - when I was at a 5. Nobody blinked an eye at it.

Umm actually the dry birth is a myth since the amniotic fluid keeps being made constantly even after it breaks there really is no such thing as a dry birth.

The closest thing you can come to a dry birth is if you have extremely low amniotic fluid to start with. That means your body isnt making it like it should anyway. But in a normal birth it isnt a issue.

The only thing you have to watch for is infection but that only becomes a issue after 24 hours and a lot of time not even then.

That is interesting to me. I did know that your body will continue to produce amniotic fluid....but I was unaware that this was a complete myth. Mmm...to hear my mom talk about my her labor and delivery w/ me, she will tell you she had a dry birth and back labor. Her water broke the day b/f she went into labor and she just waited until her Dr appt the next day to say anything. Not sure what happened w/ her then??

Thanks for the response...its always interesting to learn that stuff.
