Queer TTC January 2008! - Page 2

First, congrats to all the mamas with BFPs!!! What a great way to start the new year.
MMM, I think your letter is both clear and coherent and very articulate. Good job.
Simplelah, you can switch me to the waiting to know, although I am pretty sure we were too early. Oh well.

Happy New Year!!!

Don't be too hard on yourself, tigg. It's a process, trying to figure out when to insem, and sometimes it takes a while to get it right.

That's true frog, thanks. I think part of me wants to find reasons that it won't work so I won't be too disappointed when it doesn't. I like to worry a lot about things before it is even neccessary.

:::Snoopy, congratulations!!! :::

MMM, the letter is extremely professional and to the point. Well done.

It's a gift we share, the gift of worrying.

First, congrats to mamimapster and Snoopy--woohoo! And did I miss anyone else? I've been out of town, off email, and swamped with work to boot...

We are now taking a break until next month, where we might try Clomid with one of our 2 frozen vials left. Blah. I don't seem to have irregular ovulation, but for these last two tries (before we're back to fresh), I thought it might be good to have more "targets," so to speak. (My daughter is convinced we're having twins--and has been since the summer of 2006--so maybe it's time to encourage that--eek!) It's still hard to grapple with getting pg extremely quickly 2 times, and now going 15 months with no bfp. I often wonder if it will ever happen again. That said, we have a lot going on, and are lucky enough to have an amazing almost-5 year old who is just such a fun person to spend time with, so I am grateful for things as they are too--and try to focus on the present and the process rather than some desired future.

To second frog, I've heard that Preseed is good too. We tried it once (though my cf is usually fine), and actually found it locally (in upstate NY). I think their website has way to search for stores that carry it.

Good luck to everyone--I'll try to keep up as I come up for air! I think my next cycle should start sometime in mid- to late January.

Congrats Snoopy!! What a way to start the year

MMM- the letter is wonderful! Articulate, to the point, and should cause the doctor to rethink her practices.

Question: OK, I'm obsessing about my O date and whether I inseminated too late this time. Is it possible to ovulate before a +OPK, or immediately after? Fertility Friend says I O'ed on CD 15, but I didn't get a +OPK until 5pm on CD 15. Normally I O more like 36 hrs past +OPK. I just hate to think that the very month we got 3 vials so we didn't miss on the timing, I ovulated super early and screwed it all up. It's so frustrating!

If things are as stable as they have been, we should be trying that first insemination on the 31st of this month !!

Has anyone gone through IUI in a fertility clinic ?
How was it ?

Babydust to everyone !

Coco

Yep, Went to a clinic/RE and loved it. After the 3rd try we now have a positive test. They made everything so easy and as stress free as the process can be of course.

Coco, we do IUI at home (midwife comes to us) and I've never had any trouble or cramping at all.
well, either I'm spotting b/c of implantation, or AF is on her way. I'm testing today, even though I'm not due to bleed til friday. please send all your baby beams this way!

congratulations, snoop!

Hi everyone! I am new to the board... well, I have been lurking for the past few weeks and thought I would finally post. My DP and I are hoping to try this month. We have really just started on all of this and we may not even get to try this month but I am really hoping. My DP will be the one carrying and she should be getting AF tomorrow if all is on schedule. So add us to the waiting to O even though we may just be on hold for now.

Congrats to the BFPs and good luck to all the TWW and all TTC!

*sigh* move me to waiting to O, please.

BFN.

HI, all. Just got back from our Mexico vacation last night (wonderful), so i'm sort of out of the loop, but wanted to say congrats to the BFPs!! This is a wonderful way to start the new year!

also, wanted to respond to a post by JennM1021 on last months' thread about using the fertility monitor with or instead of OPKs, cause this is something i've experimented a lot with! i've started using the fertility monitor to let me know when my first High reading is, then i start using my OPK twice a day (luckily i only have 2-4 high days) for the exact reason you point out: you can only use the monitor once a day, AND in the morning, so there are actually really good odds you could miss the tiny ovulation window necessary when using frozen sperm. if you use the OPK, you can better pinpoint when "exactly" your surge happened.

it totally sucks holding your pee. i try to do it at a time when i'm really busy at work or in the car so i can't stop anyway, and i don't drink any liquids.

anyway...just my thoughts on the subject.

happy new year, everyone!

I've been pouring over the "Essential guide to lesbian conception, etc." for the past few weeks...in this book, the author says that it's definitely possible to O before a +ve OPK, especially if other fertility signs are present (CM, high cervix, open ox, temps, etc.) She says that often people inseminate too late because they ignore other signs in favour of the OPK. She says it's best to use OPKs as one of several signs to decide when you're most fertile. ETA: I'm sure it's possible to ovulate after a +ve OPK too, by the same logic...everyone is different and it sounds like OPKs results are based on "normal" or "average" LH readings for women...so if your gut told you to go ahead and insem, you probably timed it right...and if you did three inseminations, you've significantly improved your chances of timing it bang-on. The more I read about the timing, and the testing, and the signs, the more crazy it seems that it's EVER possible to be 100% certain of timing. I think you've done everything you can to be as certain as possible.
Hulahoop...thanks so much for your advice!! I've really been stressing out about the timing...and fearful that I'm not going about this the right way. Have you found that you get a + OPK before the monitor then? But, I think it's a great idea to start testing with OPK when I get my first high reading. Which...by the way...was today! I typically have about 3 days of high readings before my peak...so I think I'm good to go if I start with the OPK this afternoon. Also...last month I got my first high reading on the 13th day...but this month it's my 11th. So, I'm definitely curious as to what the OPK shows versus the monitor. So...I guess I'll just have to do my best with the no peeing thing. I don't have a problem with quantity...I just go really frequently. Of course it's worse when I'm TRYING to hold it!

So...does anyone have any suggestions on timing between insems? We do two each try...and it's frozen. I've read conflicting stuff on this...I'm not sure if we do one...then 12 hours later...or 24?? Any suggestions would be great!!!

Jenn, how long have you been charting? With most women, there's some fluctuation in "normal" O day. For example, mine ranges from Day 12-Day 18. I've been charting for 29 cycles--you can see my chart here, if you're interested.

Welcome, aminxx!

We've done mostly IUIs, for which mucous isn't a concern (as far as getting the sperm up there, at least), but did use eggwhites last month when we did an at-home intravaginal insem. i didn't get pregnant, but the eggwhites didn't seem to cause anything negative (no infection or anything afterwards). i forget where i looked up the directions, but the main thing was to make sure there is no yolk left in the whites, and to use them right after you crack the egg open, to avoid any chance of bacteria. this most recent insem, we didn't use any, because i had enough mucous, and also, my partner felt that the egg whites almost made it too mucousy.

oh, also....our midwife and the books we've read have recommended not using a speculum when inseminating, in order to avoid pulling out the sperm when you pull out hte speculum. just a thought........

Frog...I've only been charting 4 months. It actually seems to be pretty normal for me. I've only been going by temp rise up until last month though when I started using my monitor. I almost always get my temp rise on day 18. Although, I have a gradual rise...not a sharp one...so I could be wrong. I've got my swimmers coming earlier this month just to be on the safe side. Oh...and thanks for sharing your charts!!

Thanks Wannabemoms! good info. . . I just hope that this time the OPK was + before the O:
