Queer TTC January 2008! - Page 3

simplelah: I'm O-ing in the next 24hrs or so. I can be moved back to tww...again.

Congrats on the latest BFPs. Hopefully it is the beginning of a trend.

In the meantime I'm going to disappear into lurking for awhile.

My dear, I have spent way more than my fair share of time standing at bus stops as well as walking and biking in the snow and cold during 7 years of college, during which I never once lived closer than 1/2 mile from campus. And you know how winter is up here. The only time I ever justified riding the bus when I lived in an apartment 1/2 mile away was when I was recovering from mono. And even though my wife went to school in this fine state too, she lived on a teeny tiny campus where the longest possible walk was down into downtown or across the street to get to freakin' Dairy Queen.

I feel no guilt about refusing to put the still-pajama'ed child in snowpants, coat, hat and mittens and then inserting him into a subzero car.

So there.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled queer ttc chatter.

I'm going to send it to her and also to Ruth McNair - who I referenced in the letter - she always likes to hear about dykes experiences with other GP's. I would go to see her but she's very anti complementary health.

I'd love to send it to her superior but alas, she is the superior.

Depending on the response I receive, I may take it further.

Thanks all for your comments. I'll send it of once DP has ok'ed it tonight.

I hate this, not knowing what is going on. Yes, I could be pregnant, the chances seem so small at this point though.
I just want to know for sure.
I hate the 2ww.

So...does anyone have any suggestions on timing between insems? We do two each try...and it's frozen. I've read conflicting stuff on this...I'm not sure if we do one...then 12 hours later...or 24?? Any suggestions would be great!!!
Well, you're not alone with stressing about timing! Actually, that's what got me to finally come out of lurkdom on this board, because I was losing my mind about it. I don't know the answer, unfortunately. Psychologically, i feel better now that we've decided to do a vaginal insemination along with an IUI, since unwashed frozen sperm can live longer. but it still hasn't 'worked!

I've had the unfortunate experince of having my OPK go positive before my monitor one month and after another month. so it's not consistent. At this point, i rely primarily on my cervix and mucous, but do the OPK and monitor as sorta backups.

turtle magically appeared in the warmed-up car at my bus stop last night, which is 1.5 blocks from our house. I thought it was adorable, and since I grew up in the northern regions of scandaicelandia, it didn't really seem all that cold to me!

Moving myself to taking a break.
AF is on her way. I had the start of some spotting today and cramps for the past few days. I can't fool myself anymore, I'm not pregnant this month.

It's heartbreaking because we are back at square one. Our donor just isn't at all reliable and I am sick of the stress of it all. I guess we are on hold until we figure out what we are going to do. This is the 4th donor we have had back out on us and we just can't handle it anymore. We are looking at a bank but that would be something we would be doing in months, not yet.

Right now we are going to enjoy the family we do have, work on getting my cycles on track and getting healthier. I was so focused on TTC that everything else kinda got lost along the way. I think this break will be good. It's hard, but we need it.

I'm sorry things are crappy for you - the known donor thing can be very stressful, i know. our donor is solid as a rock but i still live in fear of him changing his mind. i can't imagine what it would be like to have sifted through 4.

I hope your break results in only good stuff.

LaH, I'm so sorry.

Congrats to all those with recent BFPs! :

and

to those who have had BFNs or know AF is on the way.

We're still waiting to be ready this month. We're hoping that KD will be able to come up to Canada next month for our first shot at TTC for 2008.

Simplelah, I'm so sorry about having to take a break. I hope that it is a nourishing one.

Frog -- so glad you got a rescue from the cold! :

We went to the OB today (he helps us get preg, then off to a midwife). We talked about what's next on our roller coaster ride. I think we're pretty much all on board with not doing injectables because of the much higher risk of multiples. But, we'll probably do ultrasound monitoring and perhaps the HCG trigger shot (insurance dependent). So, I need some help:

If you're monitoring via ultrasound and can tell you're about to O, what is the purpose of having the shot on top of that? Just a guarantee for the O? I just need to understand it a bit more.

The doc also said we could do an IUI using our KD -- he has some ways of working around the legal issues because he wants everyone to have equal access to this possibility. Love him!!!!!!!!! So, I think we'll add that in too. Never done that, though, so how do we time that around the trigger shot? And does anyone know if non-frozen sperm still only live for 12 hours post IUI or do they last a bit longer?

Phew! I'm excited by these new possibilities.

Thanks all,
megin

I think it's the freezing that shortens their life spans, but I'd be really curious to know, too. I'm just picturing all of these sperm swimming in dizzy circles after being spun in a centrifuge :

I love the image! I think it's being able to see the humor in this process that makes it somewhat bareable!
