And something else only you ladies would understand... I held my first baby since the death of my son almost 19 months ago. And I did okay.
I had no idea you lost your son. I'm so sorry.
It sounds like you had a great time! I am going to check out when she will be in my area.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty convinced this is the course for me. I really want to get into CBE while I go through school to help pay the bills. I just love teaching.
It's time I come out of lurkdom and introduced myself.
I'm Melissa, student midwife, wife, and mother of 4 daughters.
I'm just beginning my studies and I have a LOT to learn. I'm happy to be here!

Yay, you joined the thread! Everyone, this is Melissa my IRL friend who doesn't live near me anymore (but hopefully not for long )
She just started AAMI too

I have skimmed this forum and just wanted to share a little info -
I am a Junior at FSTM and 2 weeks ago the the paperwork for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was signed and mailed. I will not go into why wasn't this done years ago because those points are now mute.
My midwifery sisters and I have been on it since the beginning of our freshwoman year and we will be thrilled when the official announcement is made. I just wanted to give you all hope that financial assistance will soon be available and that every woman that has the calling to become a midiwfe can finally make that dream come true!
If you have any questions please email me privately
Welcome, Melissa! I am also an AAMI student. Infact, I am sitting at my computer to do some AAMI work, but am finding ways to distract myself with mothering.com

mruffalo, thank you for sharing! I recently heard this a week or so ago, but wasn't sure if it was a done-deal yet. So glad to hear that it is!! And hopefully I will be meeting you in person in August! :
Yesterday was our church's 50th anniversary. A former pastor and his wife were visiting. They're now missionaries in the southern part of the country working with illegal Burmese immigrants and sea gypsies. She asked how my studies were going and if I was catching any babies. She's knows it's hush-hush here. I said yes and no. And then she went on to tell me all about the babies being born in the villages where they're working. No prenatal care, high malaria/dengue fever, some AIDS. Because they're illegal immigrants they're not going to the hospital. She wanted to know if I wanted to come down and check it out next summer when we have some free time. I'd LOVE to see birth in the villages and find out if there are traditional midwives working, interview, watch, etc.. What an AWESOME opportunity! And it lit a fire under me to study harder!
