January Decluttering Challenge! - Page 4

I'm on the 2008 for 2008 but a monthly goal is a good idea too!

I am having a hard time finding enough time with the baby to do decluttering, so I am going for another 100 in January. We will see if I can get that!

I have 505/2008 now but I am slowing way down because of time and things to declutter. A lot of the things I am decluttering are for sale, so they don't go away very quickly, you know?

So 0/100 for the remainder of January.

Hubby went through his closet and we are up to 90/2008. A slow and steady train for us. We try to do a little bit of decluttering everyday. Even if it is just five minutes or a drawer.

Oh I forgot, I did part of a drawer yesterday and we are up to 96/2008.

I am going with the motto - Slow and Steady wins the race!

I did one of these challenges a couple years ago, but have decided it is time again. However, I have been better since then about not holding on to stuff so that I don't need to declutter so much . . . or so I thought. I don't know if I want to keep track all year long to go for the 2008, but we'll see.

I started today with our little mud/storage room. We don't use that door and so it just gets piled up with all the crap we want to hide. I managed to knock out 127 things just from that tiny room! 104 of that went into the trash or recycling. 7 into my "to sell" bin and 16 into "donate". And one bag of rocks just got emptied back into the outdoors. (However, I'm sure they'll find their way back in.) I didn't even count each and every thing . . . such as the bag of rocks that I counted as "1".

Goal for the rest of January 40/100

I feel bad counting the clothes for my January goal so I am not going to. I am only counting 5 of the clothing items I took from closets and the rest were in a bag and a box given to me recently, so I will count them only in my big total.

57 - clothing
3 - bake pans
1 - pkg coffee filters
14 - dog toy bin stuff
1 - tupperware
3 - saved newspapers

- lamp and camera, bag & components
- 2 returns today
- another bag (counting as 3) of stuff returned yesterday

I'm calling it 9. I have to get moving, I feel like I'm just skimming the surface and not getting enough accomplished lately.

I started on the 2008 for 2008 but since I'm not so hot on counting items as I get rid of them I'm going to go monthly.

So far

freecycle
8 T shirts
5 baking trays and 1 pan
1 bouncy castle listed on freecycle (gone)

charity
13 items of clothing
1 marble run
1 photo frame

bin/recycling
30 old pairs of socks
1 broken coathanger
1 very old pillow
1 old cracked mug

and 1 bag clothing (20+ items) sorted for rags. (not sure if that counts as I'm still keeping them but we do use the rags so...)

another bouncy castle and pump (I'm a sucker for bringing free stuff home to be fixed!)

15 listed on freecycle

We did DH's upper desk cabinets last night.

- 8 books
- 5 items for donation
- 23 trash items (including pamphlets for recycle)
- 12 dead pens!

Also for donation:
- 3 new photo pens
- Tupperware ice cream container

I have some stuff listed on Freecycle, hopefully that will go this week too...

We're planning another desk cabinet clean out for later today, then the cabinet goes out too!!

Today I went through the monster stack of artwork on the top of my fridge. Of course both girls were at school. I'd say I cut it down by 2/3 keeping only special or especially interesting pieces. I didn't count each piece of paper, but it was probably around 100. Do I count that as 100 or consider it just 1 for the paper grocery sack it filled?

Aside from the artwork, my count stands at 143/300 for January.

I'm at 274/500. DD's birthday was this week so that set us back a bit. Both my parents were in town and I swear the kid got 25 presents. Ugh. I did get rid of one thing of hers for each new item that came in, but it still seems like too much stuff!

I have a big laundry basket of tiny plastic balls outside that are getting nasty from the weather. I'm going to try and pitch those tonight.

I feel like I'm monopolizing the thread

-- 3 cables for printers we don't even own anymore
-- random, outdated software & books
-- some outdated computer hardware and cards
-- 3 more kitchen items for donation basket

I'm calling it 13. I think someone is buying our extra fridge this weekend too

LOL anathasam, I think it's great you're still going after you met you goal. That's why I have to set mine high, because otherwise I quit as soon as I reach it!
