I want to declutter a deck of Tarot cards that a friend of mine gave me when she moved away. They are in a beautiful wooden box and I have never used them. I know nothing about Tarot cards. Should I sell them? Throw them away? Try to give them away?

traditionally tarot cards should be given not purchased. So if you can find someone to give them too that would be good. I have a set myself that I am wondering the same thing about.

You can sell them on Amazon or Craiglist if you have the box they came in. I have had luck with both of these places for decks I haven't used, always specifying that they have not been used at all. Giving them away is a better option, but I didn't know anyone that didn't already have enough decks.

I finally made some progress going through the baby clothes today. Still have some items lying around, but it is much much improved...

I'm going to say it's never too late to join a year-long affair when it's only January--right? And since my mission is purging this year (and we are renting a 20-yard dumpster JUST for the attic), I venture to say I might catch up to you all late next month.

Today I set aside two raised planters that I've owned for 8 years and never used; plus an oversized wooden rooster--all going on Freecycle to be gone by end of week. Do I record the score now? Or only after they've "left the building"?

Mailed one box of clothes (14) and a book (1).

Threw out the kids' plastic lap desks. They no longer used them, and they were in horrible shape.

This week, Thursday will be my day to donate. I will pack up and keep count, and when I get home from dropping it all off, I will post. I hope to to be over 300 by then.

1 big orange rocking chair! hoorah! been trying to sell/freecycle this thing for about 2 months but dh kept insisting it needed to be sold (I finally got rid of it on craigslist free section)

Goal to send off this week (should be on the TP tonight hopefully): spring/summer maternity clothes sizes M and L, outgrown cloth diapers and covers (not a lot; newborn size) I guess I need to get cracking, I should have 71 items gone if I want to make 5.5 items per day to total 2008 at the end of the year!

Personally, I count it if it's something already boxed up for donation since I'm really good about taking it when I am in the area. But if it's something that does not yet have a place to go (ie Freecycle, Craigslist not picked up yet), then I count it after it's gone. That's just what I do and everyone has different "rules for themselves I'm sure. Good luck with the decluttering! :

Okay, here's my summary of the week's decluttering copied from my blog. I haven't done anything major yet, but we're making progress nonetheless! I was going to say more about the Barbie-like doll that I really just want to donate, but I'm not sure if my aunt (gift giver) reads my blog or not, so. . .

All except for a few things have been dropped off at the thrift store. This coming week I think I'll be tackling my closet.

Today we finally hung up three gorgeous frames that I've had for a number of months now. I'm counting that as 6, 3 items out of the closet and 3 boxes in the trash. I also got in some more catalogs (2) that are already in the recycling bin. I'm moving slower than usual on the decluttering, but I'm in such an organizing mood instead.

You ladies are really inspiring me.

Last night I :

Recycled 5 catalogs
Recycled 10 other paper things
Took 20 things to GoodWill incuding piece of wall art, robe, candleholder, audiobook, gloves.
And the thing that I am most proud of is I did not renew 3 magazines that are up for renewable. I know it sound like nothing to some but I have an addiction to magazines so that was HUGE.

New total: 229/2008.

I have a set of silverware, not silver, but very nice. My grandparent's gave them to me when I married my first husband. Grandparents are now passed away and dh and I have a new set. Is it ok to give these away?
