Personally, I would. If they are really nice and there's alot of sentiment attached, I'd try to give to family so you can "visit" the set. But if you're not using it and it's cluttering your world, then you are not getting the intended joy out of the gift.

A friend of mine pointed out that no one really wants guilt to be the reason that someone else keeps something they've given. And sentiment can be stored in a journal.

So there's my two cents.

I finally made it to the post office today, so I dispensed of:

(1) book sent out - Bookins
(6) diaper wraps sent out to MDC mama
(3) CD holder cases sent to family
(2) pairs of socks returned -- too fuzzy ~boo~

I'm up to 62/2008. This was mostly things from our kitchen junk drawer, and today I cleaned out my 'hair' drawer in the bathroom, and threw out heaps of old hairbands, clips, bobby pins etc that I never use (but have been keeping for years 'just in case').

Next stop ... the study/office. Very scary room that I can barely walk into at the moment.

LOL, I think I'm running out of things to declutter...

I threw away 20 tuperware lids that have no bowls and will throw away more as I unpack

Gave a small fry pan, small sauce pan, dutch oven and waffle maker to my brother since he got his own apartment

Threw out 2 old pillows (ew)

Several more of James' toys went buh-bye

Not sure where I'm at...must sleep, my coffee is wearing off. LOL

Question, DH wants to keep cards, I'm sick of packing them around. He won't budge.

Last night I went through one of my husband's junk boxes in the basement. I got rid of what I could without him. Not sure when we will get back to it, but at least it's a start.

I am gearing up for tomorrow's major session. I plan to concentrate on the office since it is the beginning of the semester and I need a fresh start. I will also pack and take out all the stuff from the garage I have thrown in there but not counted yet.

I am still moving ahead and am so inspired by everyone one this list.

Yesterday I gave away alot of paint and paint supplies that someone requested on FreeCycle. It was by far the best declutter project so far. The paint was being used to decorate a community garden and the women that picked the paint up were thrilled and enthusiatic. I also felt great because it gave me permission to forget about another "unfinished" project.

I am loving this decluttering thing!!

seeing a difference

Wow! We are halfway through the first month.
Are you seeing lots of difference in your houses yet?
I am not really seeing a change yet, but I haven't lost hope!

I think so. It is much better for it to be used by someone.

Yesterday afternoon, I decluttered the family car. I pulled out a full reusable bag's worth of paper clutter alone! The trunk still has DH's golf clubs in it, but he's going to have to deal with those. I also just sold 3 items online and will ship them out this afternoon.

Sold the large Little Tykes slide/climber that had somehow found a home in our living room.

Made $50 and our living room looks much more peaceful. 478/2008

I am a lurker here and I have started but I did not keep track as I wanted to, partly because I was getting a lot of help. My hubby cleaned the garage and when i remembered to ask him how many things we re-homed and trashed, he said it was over the 2008 LOL But when I told him to keep the idea of piles in mind, he came up with 200 and I know I got to 220 before taking a break soooooo I am counting it as 420 for now.

420 - Garage
5 - Maturnity Jeans (Ebay)
6 - Diapers (Ebay)
1 - Baby Outfit (Regifted)

Going through my closet today so we shall see what gets free cycled and what goes on ebay.

Bed room is the goal now!

17 more items today!
I went through a makeup bag and threw away a bunch of old brushes, applicators and years old makeup I have no idea why I was saving that stuff. I haven't worn makeup in several years. Maybe I thought one day, I'll want to. But when that day comes, it'll be so old and nasty

Would it be wrong of me to save the brushes and applicators to use for art project? I have no intentions yet. But I know somewhere down the line I can use them.

I do see a difference-- I have more room in my cupboards-- I'm excited!
I think if I counted every piece of paper I have tossed so far I would be over the 2008-- but I decided not to- as there is still a whole basement full of stuff I want to get rid of-- and it's helping the kids when they can mark off squares on my "2008" spreadsheet. ;-)
