March 2007 Mamas & Babies: It's January 2008! - Page 3

Oh wow, Corbin is not cutting 3 teeth at the same time. He is getting his 2 top ones and a bottom. He already has one bottom one as it is. I was wondering why he was acting strange the other day. At least now I know.
Avery has 6 teeth now! 4 on top and the two front ones on bottom. And he likes to bite! Sigh...
Congratulations Corbin and Avery! More teeth mean less teeth to deal with later. Ruby's working on molars and has been for about 4 months, on and off. This last week, she's had several screaming sessions, poor thing, and her gums are so swollen, they're almost white. I can't wait till they're out!
Ooh, I'm so sad for Ruby. Avery was freaking out with his first tooth (top front right), but since then the rest haven't seemed to bother him at all (just a little drooling). Fingers crossed that it stays that way!

Here's hoping Ruby gets those new chompers in quick, and that it's smooth sailing from then!

Does anyone remember me? I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted. Lots going on over here and not nearly as much MDC time as I wish I had. I miss my fellow March Mamas!

I am pitifully behind and just had time to skim a little but I did recognize several names. As far as our stats, A can scoot on his bottom and wiggle on his belly but is not offically crawling yet. He just started waving bye-bye, claps, says a couple words and is cutting tooth number 7. So it sounds like he is right on par with a few other March babes. He is super sweet and mellow and cuddly, but he's heavy! He was 28lbs at his 10mo visit. I'm starting to wonder how much longer I can carry him - by back hurts even with a Beco.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but I posted a while back about bloody stools. He had a couple more bouts and we're now thinking that he has a peanut allergy/sensitivity on top of the dairy thing. We're considering further allergy testing but it's pricey and not super accurate at this age. Anyone have any experience with that?

Ah, children hollering... Hope to be able to check in more! Love to you all!

Paisley!!!! Good to see you again! Glad you remembered your long-lost DDC...seeing as it STILL says you're our President!!! Wow, 28#...I doubt my DD will hit that by the time she's 3...just not growing much here. But, I guess my back can be thankful, huh? Gosh, I hope he doesn't have a peanut allergy, too! That's one of the worse kinds, IMO. Are you feeding him peanuts or just eating them yourself?

Ooh, gotta head to bed now. Can't believe 8:00 has become my new bedtime! I long for the days where I could stay up as late as I wanted and not have to worry about someone waking me up all night! Maybe in 18 more years, right??

Paisley!!!!!
I know Natalie, my oldest, had boody poop and when we cut out dairy it went away. I am sory you are having to deal with that, that is a scary thing to see when changing a diaper.

Gwen just has one tooth coming right now. It is so cute to see that one tooth. And kinda funny since her oldest sister is losing that same tooth right now.

Well, er... Bunny is happily practicing standing on his own... still no teeth... Has started napping on his own and even SLEEPING THE WHOLE NIGHT IN HIS CRIB, all of the sudden... Just last week he still needed to fall asleep ON me, and would wake up if I moved away. So this is a huge developmental leap for him.

Yeah, so... I have a BITER. And not just when I'm nursing her- she will come up to anyone and just bite them, bare skin is a favorite. She understands "No biting!", but it is still a PITA (or wherever else, lol). Fun times.

Oh, and also SCREAMING! She'll just look at you and shreek. It's great. Then when we say "Shhhh" she'll try to copy us and make spitty sounds with her mouth, lol. She certainly is developing her personality and she is so much less mellow than when she was a tiny baby!

We had a nice time in Mexico. Of course the beach was beautiful! It's still too chilly to swim, but we had some lovely walks and sea shell hunts. I'll try to post some pics of our trip soon...

Little DD is screaming at Foster DD from inside their blanket fort so I must interrupt their slumber party and see what's goin' on in there. 'Night ladies.

Oh my goodness, DS too. He's actually quite sneaky about it now. He'll lean over like he's giving you a kiss on the arm or cheek or whatever. He'll do that like 4 times in a row, then on the fifth time he'll just bite the heck out of you.

Litte demon!

Good to see you paisley! No advice on the allergy thing, really; just commiseration. My doctor did mention that at this age our dc are still in the "might grow out of it" stage -- at least with my ds's allergies/sensitivities: dairy, egg & soy.

Wild Flowers, cinnamonamon, and Paisley! It is good to see you all back here!!

And how in the heck are y'all getting your babies to sign?!
The signs DS does the most are the ones I'm the most consistent with. I don't sign myself as much this time around though and there is a difference between how many signs DD used to know and use at the age and how many DS knows and uses.

I would like to know more about this too. What's involved in allergy testing? I think that DS must have some sensitivities/allergies and it would be nice to know more. At what age is it more accurate?

That is great! So that's a really good step for Bunny to take! And you are due next month, right? How are you feeling, by the way?

Oh my, I have quite the biter too. He does the same thing with the stealth biting. And my arm is bruised from all the biting. What is that about? DD was never a biter. (There I go again, with the declaration of how different DD was )

I have a baby who has crawled over to DD's toys so I best go make sure he isn't getting into any choking hazards (his favorite pasttime.)

Take care mamas!

Yes I am still the pres. I was thinking about going over to the March 08 DDC and trying to pull ranks, being as my DDDDC doesn't specify the year. I wish the cabinet members' DDDDCs would have lasted this long too!

So yeah, 28lbs. His 3yo cousin only has 3lbs on him. And for the peanuts, it's just through my milk. I made (and ate ) a batch of peanut butter cookies and 30 hours later he had the reaction. I was also eating a lot more PB than usual when he had the first bout.

It is scary to see all that blood! And then the whole peanut allergy thing is just scary in itself. I just hope that it won't be severe as he gets older. I read an interesting blip somewhere about a link between GMO soy and the rise in peanut allergies. So I am thinking about holding off on soy until he's 2 or 3 too - kind of sucks with the no dairy thing. (We eat organic soy but unfortunately that's not a guarantee anymore that it's GMO-free.)

We have a biter and a screamer too! He definitely gets the screaming from ds1, who hollers all the time and then gets upset when the baby screams back.

Thanks for love and good to see you too! Which of your boys have allergies/sensitivities?

Good to see you too (here and on the co-op board )! We saw a western Peds GI specialist and she wanted to do a blood draw for the allergy testing. She said that if we got a positive we could trust that, but there would be a high chance of false negatives. Basically, A needs to have eaten the different foods in order for his body to make the little allergic reaction proteins (I'm sure there is a more scientific term for them ). So without having directly eaten the various foods, the blood test can't definitively tell us if he'd be allergic to them or not. And for $300 we are thinking that maybe it's not the best use of our funds at this point. There may be other tests but I honestly haven't done the research yet. :

My girls are really good at finding choking hazards. They go everywhere and say, this is a choking hazard. We need to put that up so babies don't die. We used to have playgorups at our house. They are really good at finding them and putting them up. I was glad to not have to fight so much over these toys have to go up for awhile...
Gwen isn't a biter, but she hurts me by pnching. She is horrible about me cutting her nails and she isn't a twiddler she is a dig your nails into mamas nipple. The bad part is she does this in her sleep, so I wake up with sore nipples and wonder how it happened. And then she does in it the morning and I am like, oh yeah, lets try to cut those things, kay? But it is a few day process. A lot easier to deal with than a biter. You can't cut their teeth

Ruby loves to hang out at my knee and bang her teeth on them. Lately she's babbling like mad, and she cheerfully gets into everything.

Good luck with the biters and the scratchers! Ruby is both, but not very extreme with either.

I have a biter and scratcher, too. She's slowly starting to learn that if she bites I take her off and sit her down beside me. She doesn't like having her meal interrupted!

Oh, BTW, according to our pediatrician, we have a little genius on our hands! She says that there was some study where they were trying to find a link between intelligence and baby milestones, such as age when first started crawling/walking/talking, etc. The ONLY correlation to increased intelligence later in life was a greater degree of stranger anxiety as a baby! My DD goes absolutely ballistic if someone touches or holds her and will even start crying if someone looks at her too long or talks to her! Now THAT'S extreme, right?? I tried to google the study when I got home, but didn't find anything. Oh well...sure made me feel pretty good anyway! (we always knew she was the smartest baby EVER, this just proves it! )

We all knew Miranda was the smartest baby ever!

Ruby's not going to be quite as smart-- she doesn't seem to mind new people. She won't smile at them for anything, but she won't cry either. She gives them mostly an unnerving stare. Today she went and played with a complete stranger (not to me, of course) for an hour and a half while I painted. I was pretty surprised.

I havn't had time to read up on this thread, But just wanted to say hello! It's been a while.

M is growing- a little chunk at 22lbs and has finally started looking like a girl- she looked like a boy for the longest time. She doesn't crawl- she kinda wiggles/bum scoots across the floor. No teeth- thank goodness- we just got her out of the habit of biting down on my nipple when nursing.

I hope everyone is doing well- hopefully I can soon make some time to catch up on all the news!

Oh, it's the baby with the allergies...I remember saying "gee, I'm so glad my kids weren't given to more than a little dairy sensitivity; it would be so hard dealing with allergies!" And I was right -- and they're still pretty mild, comparatively speaking.

Now, of course, Spencer just broke out in a yeast rash *cry*. So I'm off to look at the best way to get rid of that.

Oh no! Avery's gonna be a moron...he'll go to anyone!

It's true, though...if anyone (and I do mean anyone) picks him up, he'll usually turn and look and me and start waving bye-bye. Makes me feel great.
