What is the need for knit soakers? I've been CD'ing for over a year and have never used one of these. What is their use?

They're diaper covers. If you're using AIO, they're not necessary.

Are they necessary even with regular diaper covers or do they go in place of diaper covers over the diapers?? Are they better than diaper covers?

They're used in place of another cover. They're breathable, yet they keep moisture in, and they don't need to be washed with every change--just hang dry.
