Nursing moms shouldn't pump their own gas?

I picked up this gem today at the bookstore:

http://www.amazon.com/Your-Pregnancy...9329564&sr=8-1

The section about breastfeeding says that nursing moms shouldn't pump gas because the fumes can get into the milk or something like that. : Should I just never fill up my tank now and hitchhike with my babe to avoid the contaminants that might possibly enter my milk??? I swear, think of the women who actually listen to this and don't breastfeed because they think they have to totally change their lives around to make breastfeeding managable and safe.

seriously. this whole series (your pregnancy - week by week, first year, etc) is terrible. not as bad as what to expect, but still pretty stinky. ot - but there is a whole section in the your pregnancy week by week book utterly condemning homebirths and using scare tactics. because you your baby WILL DIE if an MD doesn't "deliver" your babe. woo.

on the other hand, if I had another nursling, and it was winter and -40 degrees outside, I might try to inform my dh of this... so he would fill the car.

Hogwash.... but then, it's really cold here... : I mean, really cold :. So I might just use this as a excuse to get someone else to pump my gas...

Just like I need "privacy" to nurse when MIL is around... hopefully she doesn't see that pic of me nursing Thomas at city hall skating rink last week. (Although there was definitely no skin showing there! Brrr....

Move to NJ and they still do! It's against the law to pump your own gas. I grew up in NJ and when I went to college out of state the first time I had to pump my own gas was definitely an eye-opening experience.

What about nursing WHILE pumping gas. Like when DD was little and hated the car seat and while the gas filled, I filled her up to!

What craziness. I am sure we get far more chemicals in our BM from average "regulated" food.

Hey I've done that. Shhh no one tell DH, actually he knows I would prefer him to fill the tank and being a sweetie does it for me.

But really I've filled the take when nessasary - how else should I expect to get around?

Of course!! Don't you know that both you and babe breathing in all those wonderful exhaust fumes along the road is much, much healthier. (sarcasm off)

Nursing mamas shouldn't drive, either.

Keep them at home and be private about such breastfeeding nonsense. The only boobs we want to see are the discreet, plastic ones on billboards.

Other fun ones I've heard -- I can't eat chocolate, drink coffee, drink beer or high fat foods. LOL.
