Can someone explain NaNo?

I feel bad for not knowing what it is? But can anyone explain for me?

Don't feel bad.

Basically, it's a month long writing "contest" in which participants aim to write a 50,000 word novel in the space of a month. The point is to write as much as possible in a short amount of time, following the "just get it down on paper" approach to writing.

I toyed with the idea of doing it this month and even set up a profile, which was silly of me because I *knew* I wouldn't be able to do it.

Otherwise, my feelings on the matter are completely elitist and I shall refrain from saying more so as not to offend anyone.

National Novel Writing Month aka NaNoWriMo. It takes place every November, and the goal is to make yourself write a 50,000 word novel in a month. The intensive writing helps you learn discipline and helps you learn to push through the spots where you usually get stuck because you can't get the writing perfect. It's also fun because so many people are doing it with you at the same time, so the support is nice. It's a way to get a first draft of a novel that may or may not be worth cleaning up afterwards.
