Anyone still here?

I take it as a good sign that starry_mama didn't start the thread today. I hope she's birthing her babe right about now.

40+6 and nothing. I'm going in for an NST this morning. Be back later.

I didn't start it because MDC has been all wonky for me. I'm still EXTREMELY here.

MDC is so messed up for me......

Still here, 41+5. It's castor oil day for me. I am more than a little trepidatious, so wish me luck.

A midwife I know recommended mixing it with liquor and OJ, but the only alcohol in the house is an old bottle of port. Sounds kind of nasty, IMO. She also said to eat a lot of carbs and take tons of fluids so I don't get dehydrated. I really have tried just about everything else, and I know that my OB will dangle the dead baby card in front of my face at tomorrow's appointment to induce before I hit 42 weeks on Saturday, and I do get a little more anxious as time goes by. I have tried very hard not to be intimidated by their rhetoric, but they are playing to my weaknesses by citing my weight and slightly elevated BP as risk factors, and playing on my fears of a bad outcome, especially since my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage.
The main thing is that I won't be able to enact my renegade birth plan (showing up at a different hospital in active labor) if I get induced at this hospital, so I want to go before that becomes an inevitability.
Hope others are having more progress!

MDC hasn't been working for me all morning. but NOW it finally is!

42 weeks today! I've got an appointment with my midwife, DH is taking off work to go with me. I think we might talk to her about castor oil or something like that.

or maybe i'll be lucky and go into labor...i seem to have been losing the mucous plug over the past few days, so...we'll see.. :P

Thanks! I am drinking a 1.5 liter of smart water for the electrolytes in preparation. Gonna get on the castor oil within the next hour. How long did it take for it to take effect when you did it?

I saw the teensiest bit of mucus today, so maybe today is a perfect day to help things along!

MDC has been wonky today for me too.

41+4. Had a daily check in with my midwife and things seem okey dokey as far as swelling, bp, urine dip, baby movements. I have been having some strong contractions since Hubby and I had some hot and steamy bedroom action (uhh.. somehow in my cumbersome state we managed to steam up our bedroom windows..teehee!). I woke myself up with moaning through some of the contrax. So just to "show off" to the midwife, my contrax got super strong during the visit. they have been pretty spot on 10 minutes apart most of the day and are strong-lots of cervical pressure and globs and globs of red/pink baby cork.

"They" want Hubby and I to call into the hospital tomorrow morning to see if there is room for induction for me. I have already ducked one induction appt--Come Baby! Please All that is Dear and Holy, please please please let these sharp contractions be the real thing! I feel like I have a bowling ball sitting in my pelvis and rectum.

thinking lots of OOooopen thoughts-picturing myself opening up--blossoming like a flower--Oooopen! My new mantra.

Both times I took one dose & my baby was born within 10 hours of it. All right, mucous!! Great sign! (where else do we get so excited about mucous? lol ) Good luck again! :

Lizzardbits!! Woohoo, sounds like things might be happening! : : And geeez, steaming up the windows?? You little sex kitten, you!

Ok, I'm not really at "castor oil" point yet, but if I get to that point, I need some info:

I've heard it makes you very gassy, pukey, lots of diarrhea, etc. Is that true? Will I be pooping all over myself all through labor? And puking? I can't stand puking.

Back from my NST. Babe looks perfect.

MDC has been messed up for me too. I tried to congratulate mamablueberry like 4 times before it finally went through.

Here's my castor oil story from DS's birth, 2 years ago: At 42+1 I took the oil at 7 a.m., a whole shot glass full, chased with OJ. I had read that one would typically feel the effects (diarrhea) within 4 or 5 hours, so I was disappointed when I didn't have any bowel issues by 2 p.m.

So I took a whole 'nother shot glass full.

By 4 p.m., I was pretty much glued to the toilet. That lasted til 6 or so. Maybe til 7-ish. And I didn't get any contrax out of it, either. But I didn't puke and it wasn't that bad for me -- just watery, watery diarrhea and a very messed-up -feeling bowel. No mec in the water, either, when I had AROM 3 days later as part of my failed pitocin induction.

I am probably going to try castor oil again this weekend, along with nipple stim.

Well, it's so different for some people. I swear, it was simple & fine for me, but I've definitely read some horror stories here on MDC. I took mine in OJ once, & mixed into ice cream the other time. Both times I had no problem at all swallowing it (I just don't find it as gross as everyone's always saying it is! ) & within a few hours (2-3?) I am on the toilet. Having massive bowel emptying isn't exactly FUN, but when you're about to deliver a BABY some diarrhea isn't a big deal at all! (labor is a billion times more painful is what I mean). I had to revisit the toilet several times, & it was way gross, but tolerable. And then I'd be empty. Within another hour or so my contractions would start up & I'd be in labor. I never had any "after-effects" during either labor, my bowels were pretty much as empty as could be. And I never had a bit of nausea, gassiness or puking. It was way easy. BUT, it isn't for everyone!

I'm not afraid of diarrhea, as long as its not during active labor, ya know? My mom said she tried castor oil a bunch of times when she was pregnant with me (I was 19 days late), and it didn't do anything, not even poop.
