Putting a Patch On?

Yes, pitiful I don't know how to do this.

I just got DD some snow pants on Ebay and they have a small hole. How does one patch that?

SPECIFIC directions please (like what to buy, how to do it...)

TIA

First things first... how big of a hole and of what type? i.e. is it a tear where you still have all the material and the edges meet, or is there an actual hole where material is missing?

What kind of material is it made out of... you say snow pants, are these the kind of thin waterproof pants that go over street clothes or the kind that are made of several layers of insulating material? If it's several layers, which layers have the hole?

Thank you so much for responding!!!

It is a small hole--- not a tear. I would guess 1/4-1/2 inch.

It is snow pants, with insulation. The hole is only really in the top (outside) layer, though (the insualtion and inner layer is intact).

Will an iron on patch work on that type of material or anything like that?

My concern with an iron-on would be possibly melting the fabric/insulation of the pants. Most iron-ons require high heat to adhere.

I would probably just take a piece of muslin or denim (depending on the location of the hole... on the knee I'd use denim, at the waist muslin), cut it just a little bigger than the hole, stitch it down around the edge really well. With muslin I'd probably then do a satin stitch over it, but it's not really necessary.

Thank you once again for replying.

: I don't even know what a satin stitch over is.
