"Very Wide Uterus" -- Say what?

The MW we're seeing said that at 9 weeks she could feel my uterus & it was wide. Then, at my last appointment (12 weeks) she said that my uterus was really getting very wide. And, I'm measuring ahead. But, it's my 4th pregnancy and I usually do measure ahead. I've never ever been wide before. I've been super skinny & tall.

Does my uterus need to go on a diet?

Seriously though, is there anything too meaningful about this?

Is it very common in 4th+ pregnancies?

And, I'm just cool to ride it out & figure it out as we go or do you think an U/S is needed?

Thanks for reading!

It sounds like she is thinking out loud....taking note of how your uterus feels and measures. It wouldn't mean much to me, except that women who are carrying twins often have a uterine growth spurt around 24 weeks or so and can appear "wide" as well as measuring size > dates. It could also be that because it's your 4th pregnancy your uterus does not have the tone that a primip might have. If you are going to consider a sonogram - wait until 18 weeks. That is the optimal time to evaluate everything, and by waiting you can avoid having to have more than one sonogram.
I wouldn't do anything different other than ask her next time what she is thinking. 12 weeks is too early to suspect much of anything other than you have a perfect uterus... .

Me and my untoned uterus thank you!

That's all just so reassuring. Thank you so much for your quick reply & ahhhhh, that's good. Our appt was more rushed because I had to go & then later was wondering, but she left to leave the country for a week. I really didn't think it was worth trying to track her down for that simple question!

Mmm, and your from Mendocino. Mmmm, I love visiting there. I stayed in a teeny cabin walking distance to the beach when I was pregnant with my 2nd. Whenever I do my hypnosis for childbirth, I ALWAYS go back to that cabin for my happy place. Just felt like a great place for birthing... I wonder if it ever had a homebirth in it, wouldn't surprise me!
