I put on an oldie-ish rock station, since both my DC love "rock and roll," and watching them dance and wiggle *always* picks me right back up.

That's what I need to do right now!

Thinking more on this... I think music from a time in your life when everything is great is the best thing to listen to when you are down.

Ben Lee's "Catch My Disease"

I was very very sick two years ago, and this was one of the few things that consistently brighted my day.

Personally, I like a good wallow -- the Smiths and Joy Division. The tempo gets me up, but the lyrics bring me down. My ideal state.

Me too!

First I put on the Smiths, and cry my heart out.

Then I put on something fun and upbeat, like Erasure or Dee-lite or The B-52s.

But the one song that always, ALWAYS makes me happy is They Might Be Giant's Birdhouse in your Soul : How can you listen to that song and not dance and smile?

Anything that's old that I know all the words to - Beatles, Carole King... I sing as loudly as I can.

That or I listen to songs DH wrote. It's not as sappy as it sounds - The ones about me are "Just What I Wanted" (sappy -ish) and "Are You Taking Your Pants Off?" (Not sappy) They're both upbeat.

LOL! This is great mamas! Thanks so much!

I just went digging in dh's computer for some tunes, he has a lot more in his iTunes than I do. I stumbled on Arrested Development's "United Front"...

The great depression everyone is in depression
No one knows exactly what's their role
totally confused, depressed cuz of the news
Watch TV, more bad is what U see
Everyone's lost & were looking for a savior
Everyone's blind & were looking for a leader
We've lost our faith so we need someone to guide us
Right now it's so easy to be deceived
I'm climbing my soul to reach to newer levels
Reach the mountain top so I can better see
step back and see the whole mighty picture
Gain control of my destiny
I'm climbing my soul so I can picture a solution
cuz once I picture this it can be
I cannot leave my life within this uncertainty
I call on the red, & the black and green,
& the black and the green!

United we stand United we fall
United we plan as a United front.

I walk the streets and try to pass energy
Put the gun down black man give me apound
Save those rounds for a real confrontation
undersstand who U R as a man
Everyone's lost & were looking for a savior
Everyone's blind & were looking for a leader
We've lost our faith so we need someone to guide us
Right now it's so easy to be deceived
I'm climbing my soul to reach to newer levels
Reach the mountain top so I can better see
step back and see the whole mighty picture
Gain control of my destiny
I'm climbing my soul so I can picture a solution
cuz once I picture this it can be
I cannot leave my life within this uncertainty
I call on the red, & the black and green,
& the black and the green!

Push yo hands up push yo soul up!
