I'd like to cut back on BFing significantly

DS will be 19 months old on the 9th, she nurses about every 2-3 hours. No pain yet (I'm due the 13th) but still I am begining to think about cutting back, I'd Ideally like to wean by July but if she still needs her "ma" for bedtime then I'm fine with that. Honestly though I'm really not wanting to tandem nurse if it's not absolutely neccesary. The other thing is my DD barely eats anything and I am hoping to get her appetite and weight (18 lbs currently) up by then too. Any advice? Don't ask/don't refuse would NEVER work, I tried this AM to put off a session and she didn't like that very much

A lot of toddlers will wean themselves during pg as your milk starts to change. (Although mine never did, and I don't really expect ds2 to either, but then I never completely lost my milk supply, either.) I would give it a month or two before you implement any changes... or at least wait until nursing becomes uncomfortable for you. Your dc may taper off on his own, and then you'll avoid any drama. Or, you may have to take steps, but it's easier to say no and stick to it when bf is actually uncomfortable/painful.

I would recommend Adventures in Tandem Nursing. It deals with nursing while pg, and covers the gamut from toddlers self-weaning before mom is ready, mom's choosing to wean their toddlers, and full-blown tandem nursing a toddler and an infant. It also goes into all the science behind what actually happens to your body and your milk during pg. There should be some good tips in there on how to gently wean if that is your choice. I don't think the book advocates any particular stance, just offers support, info, and stories of other moms who have btdt.
