Two questions, actually

Hi,

I have a question. How would fetal heart decelerations during labour be managed in a homebirth with a midwife?

Also, can you recommend someone (or yourself!) in Toronto or Waterloo, Ontario (Canada) who works with homebirthing moms? I'm gathering info for my next pregnancy (next year or two)...

Thanks!

I think decels are usually managed with oxygen to the mother unless they get really serious. hth

For me it would depend on the overall pattern, and how closer the mom is to delivery. Some decels are normal with contractions as long as they quickly return to baseline when the contraction ends. Decels after a contraction or frequent random low decels would concern me and I would transport if early enough, or put oxygen on her and get the baby delivered as quickly as possible.

Yes, it would really depend on the situation overall, as nashvillemw mentions.

Sometimes simply a position change for the mom will do all that is needed to change a funky fetal heart tone.
