OK, honest opinion, being pregnant during college? - Page 2

I'm not in the same position, but can you stack your courses so you can go to school MWF or TR... or do all your classes in the mornings or afternoons? I'd sit down with hubby and a course schedule (press uni admin for most current) and see if you both could stack so that someone would be with the baby.

I realize this is only possible at larger schools with more varied and copious course schedules, but it's worth throwing out there.

I think it would be pretty hard, depending on your subject, especially if you have lab work. Labs are a time suck. It might be doable with very careful planning and being very pushy with getting into the specific sections you want though.

During the newborn stage (at least for me) I could read and type papers with the baby on the boob. But then came the crawling, eating, less sleep, needy phase and it almost killed me. My grades dropped a ton during those semesters. But overall, I have done well. There are upsides to doing it while in school. My profs were great about flexibility and such. Also, I could schedule classes that worked with my husbands work schedule so we never did use any daycare.

It was hard, but I wouldn't really have changed anything, except maybe our finances. We had almost nothing to live on because I didn't work.

Good luck.
I have to agree with this. I did well my first semester back when he was teeny. I even took him to class in a sling and it was fine. It was when he was older and more demanding that it got hard.

: - just b/c i love that one!
Definitely don't try to do the every 2 hour thing. I thought that sounded like a good idea w/ my boy as well, but it was a terrible idea. I should have just taken all my classes in a row and gotten them over with. I could never get him to nurse before I left, and then I'd rush home after class to find him sucking down the last of his bottle, and I'd have to pump instead of nursing him before the next class. It would have been easier to just pump before I left, be gone for like 3 hours to get 2 classes in and come home and pump again.

I went to school full-time during ds1's pregnancy and honestly it was a cake walk compared to working full-time during this pregnancy. I was lucky enough to give birth on spring break and then my professors were lenient about letting me skip classes since I had a newborn as long as I was getting my projects and such done. I didn't take any summer classes so I got a nice 3 month break and then went back to finish my senior year when ds was 5 1/2 months old. It was challenging at times but if you are disciplined and don't put off doing projects and papers until the last minute it's really very do-able.

Glad to help

Last year when I was preggo, I worked full time and took night classes to get my second master's degree. I'm glad I was in school during the pregancy and not now, because I don't think I could've done it with him here. I say go for it. Do it now and get as much over with as you can. I can barely get my housework done now. He needs me too much right now.

Hmm... Well I'm in college full time right now and pregnant with our 3rd. However I am not bound by scholarships, and i'm not sure whether or not I will apply for the 2008-2009 Pell Grant yet. If I did, that would mean going back to school while this baby is extremely young, something I really don't want to do. Sooo...I'll probably just finish up this year, take a year off, then go back part time for the 08 Fall semester and not take out the grant (I get tuition remission through DH's job as well, that plus the grant means I go to school for free right now. But if I went part time I would not need the grant, the remission would cover one or two classes.) I have a lot more freedom to make these decisions than you. I guess I'm not much help

If you are comfortable going to school full time and continuing to build on your family, and are comfortable with the baby being in daycare while you're at school, then I say go for it. You'll have to pump while you're at school, and honestly that's a big deterrent for me....I don't like pumping and can't see myself fitting it into a full time music major's schedule. All my free time is taken up by practicing. There's no way I could have enough time to pump AND practice.
