I feel like I might be doing something right when...

I overhear my little guy say to his brother. "I love you N." and N say "I love you too M" and they don't even know I can hear them.

Of course they may be trying to kill each other in a few minutes but hey I'll appreciate what I have.

I love the sibling love. Everyday when ds gets home from school dd is just dying for him to play with her. She starts asking when she wakes up from her nap "Jakeee?" As soon as he walks in the door she runs to hug him, grabs his hand and drags him to whatever she's had planned all day. She just adores him. He tolerates her but he's 7, so it's not the same kind of all consuming adoration.

Those moments are just the best! The other morning, I heard my ds say "I love you, Lila!" She shouted back "I love you, too!" Then he said "We're best friends, right?" And she answered "Yeah, we are!"

Yesterday, I noticed that ds was looking a bit glum during his basketball game. I asked later if he was tired then, and he said "No. I just sorta missed Lila."

Then later they went back to taunting and torturing. But I enjoyed those little moments!

Today my kids, who are 3 1/2 (dd) and almost 2 (ds) had this conversation in the room next door to me:

Ds: "Way-go. Block." (His version of "Here you go, here's a block.")
Dd: "Thank you, Buddy!"
Ds: "Welcome!"
Dd: "Can you bring me another one?"
Ds: "Okay. Right back."

It's a very recent thing, that my dd is feeling less threatened by her little brother. She seems to finally understand that he would really rather play with her instead of trying to take things away from her, as she suspects.

And let me just add that I LOVE when dd calls ds "buddy." Dh and I think it's so sweet. It's much easier for me to deal with their fighting when I can see these glimmers of cooperation between them.

It is so much easier to deal with the fighting when I see these momments.

Of course yesterday DS2 tried to chew off DS1's arm in an attempt to get an ink pad, but hey I guess it is a whole package deal.
