anyone have experience with thrush?

i'm wondering if we've got it. dd's tongue is very cheesy white, but i don't see much white in other parts of her mouth. but today i noticed that the area of my nipples where she latches on is reddish and sore. no shooting pains when i nurse, though.

i'm going to use some olive oil on my nips, but i'm not even sure if this is thrush. anyone have any experience, advice or remedies?

TIA!

DD#1 had thrush awhile back now. I don't know what came first her terrible yeast diaper rush, or thrush. I know it was also in my breasts, anyways I was really dumb and didn't catch it for a while. Just wondered why it hurt when I bf, and tried everything to get rid of the diaper rash. Finally I used Monistat cream for the diaper rash, went to the dr and got something for the thrush, and cut out all flour and sugar from my diet for a couple of weeks. Everything cleared up quickly after that.

I had thrush with each kid. Sounds like it may be thrush, or may turn into thrush. Do you have any probiotics? Take them! Lots and lots of them! Also, break open the little capsules and rub some of the powder in your lo's mouth as well as diaper area. Also vitamin C too boost your immune system. Also, if you are using cloth diapers, use tea tree oil or bleach or something so that you don't "reinfect".

Not in your DDC but wanted to respond. That sounds exactly like what my dd's tongue looked like a few weeks after birth. It was a thick white coating but no other white patches anywhere else in her mouth. The ped didn't think it was thrush because it was just on her tongue but she said if you can scrape it away it's just a milk coating...if you can't...it's yeast.

I never had shooting pains in my breasts from it either...just reddish and slightly itchy.

Unfortunately, no matter what I did...we never totally got rid of it.

Here's some info on thrush that might help and getting rid of it:

Oh and congrats on your new baby girl!

sending you anti-yeast vibes, mama!

i hope mine isn't thrush b/c i've hurt my neck, and an allergic reaction to all maxi pads (and believe me, i've tried them all, even the natracare ones) have put my lady bits on the "out of commission" list. could my nipples and boobs be next?!

i felt great right after my birth, now i feel like i'm falling apart!

I battled thrush for 10 months with dd. It was hell. Make sure you change your breast pads and bras constantly, rinse your nipples after feeding and make sure to dry them well. Thrush can be a nightmare to get rid of, but there are lots of resources out there to help. Try to tackle it now, though, if you think it's thrush.

I'm completely paranoid about it and thinking I may have it, too, on my nipples. It was always topical with me, no shooting pains, but it was definitely thrush.

Feel free to PM me if you want.

I have heard that you can use GSE in some form on thrush.

Crap-shooting pains? I may have thrush too. I need to check the symptoms.

well, at least i have some team mates in the battle against yeast! there's so much info out there, it's kind of confusing what to do first. do i also have to tackle the issue of the cloth diapers (vinegar? bleach? ?

i'm kind of overwhelmed with all the info, so i think i will PM you with what worked for you, thanks!

Symptoms of thrush may include:

Unusually pink or red nipples.
Cracked or bleeding nipples
Itching or burning nipples
A shooting pain deep within the breast
Pain that continues throughout a nursing session
White patches inside the baby's mouth. (the inside of his cheeks is a "thrive" zone and an easy to identify location)
Yeast infections in other locations (diaper area, vaginal)

Ok so here is GSE info I found.

I got GSE and put 1/4 tsp in a big glass of juice. It tasted so bitter and horrible that I nearly threw up! Taking it will not be an option for me.

its nasty. I would suggest putting the drops in grapefruit juice. (Which I actually hate the taste of also) but it makes it so much easier to take.

Dh said it works in orange jiuce too.

Just about 10 drops.

did you get some medicine?

I have been dealing with a minor case-I have learned that you can paint your nipples with vinegar, or grapefruit seed extract.

I also know you can eat garlic (like whole cloves - yuck) and lots of vitamen C-and basically build up your immune system.

You can also get medicine-which you might have today.

since sunday, i'm taking acidopholis (sp?) & gave some to dd, which really helped w/ her tongue.

but i got diflucan & topical cream from dr today, since my nips are still irritated. oh yeah, and i have a yeast rash on my bits & bum, which i didn't even know was possible!!! i have been itching fow 2 wks....DUH. but it's not at all like a vaginal YI.

i was reading about all the different remedies, but got overwhelmed b/c there are so many. but now with the news that my bum rash is yeast, i want the fastest, strongest remedy - i've been really uncomfortable- so i went for the rx.

bring on the healing!

We have it too. I had it for 14 months with DS and I was SOOOO hoping to avoid it this time... nope. Ugh!
we have it right now ive been using genetian violet and its helped a TON! i paint my nipples and ds's mouth at least once a day (usually before bed) and wear my old nursing bra so i don't stain my good ones. also, eat alot of yogurt and avoid sugar/dairy/yeast.
