On Friday, January 4th, at 1:28 pm, baby boy Merle came bursting onto the scene at 8 lbs and 10 oz. It was pretty fast and furious, totally the opposite of my previous labor experience. I was able to spend most of my time laboring at home. The drive to the hospital (approx 20 minutes) was absolute HELL. My water broke within five minutes of entering my hospital room. One more contraction later and I was on my hands and knees. The midwife came in and dropped everything, leapt over me (I was kneeling in the bathroom doorway, facing the hospital room), took a look from behind and said, "we're having a baby right now!" A few pushes later and it was true. I'll write a more complete story later.
