What a GREAT topic. I have a 3yo who asks me to NIP all the time, mostly because his 4 mo old brother is. I have allowed him a few times. As of recently I have wanted to be more open with my brestfeeding. When ds1 was little I did it everywhere and anywhere. I even NIP on the buses and at bus stops. I didn't care. Then he got older and I thought people were uncomfortable so I TRIED to be discreet, but nothing seemed to be discreet enough for them. I mean, seriously, they seem to want me to put a tent around us while we are nursing so they and their children are not "EXPOSED" to a nursing child at a *gasp* BREAST! Sorry for that tangent, but since my episode with my SIL recently I've decided to going back to my former way of just doing what is most comfortable for me and the baby. But I was still distracting my 3yo, and really, I can't tell you why. Why shouldnt he be able to NIP as well. I think the more I deny it to him, the more he wants it just because he can't have it and there is not good reason why I should keep it from him.
So thank you for such an empowering thread. Since I've recently declaired myself as a Lactavist, I will plan on viewing nursing my kids in public as a positive and educational experience for all around us. I am a bit scared about people approaching me, but after reading some of the posts here, I think I'll be okay. DAMN THE MAN...SAVE THE MAMARY GLANDS!!!
