I'm reading The Grand Sophy, an old fashioned romance. It takes place in England in the early 1800's. The characters are wealthy. The parents are Lord and Lady Ombersley, but their children are called Mr or Miss Rivenhall. I don't think Rivenhall is the mother's maiden name. But why the distinction? Do they have two last names?
