Nursing lying down

Is anyone good at this & can give pointers? We can't get into a position that doesn't end up with her having a latch that feels like she's sucking on the end of my nipple. Which is not fun at 2am.

That's been Cyrus's favorite nursing position from day one. I think it helps that my boobs are just ridiculously large with the engorgement. For us, the trick is getting belly to belly as close as possible. Then bring baby to the nipple, rather than the nipple to baby. At that point, he starts sucking away and I fall asleep. It's pretty rad.

We're not great at it, but my bigger boobs definitely help. I skooch Olivia up close, use the C-hold to cup my boob and get the nipple in position, and she usually latches on pretty well. It's not her deepest or best latch, but it works. I'd advise having a receiving blanket or prefold under your boob and the babe's mouth, since I notice a LOT of dripping. But then I have a very generous milk supply ...

I second the belly to belly. I just pull Simon as close to me as possible with both of us on our sides and then he latches on well.

I pull baby tummy to tummy, too. I curl her up and kind of bend my legs sometimes so we fit together. I find it easier to keep her head up on the crook of my arm. I am not terribly endowed, so with my b/c's this works well.

and just pull the babys bottom half closer to u so babys nose isnt blocked by boob.nak

I build my pillow throne with two horizontal under my head and one vertical both left and right so I can tuck my shoulder under the top pillow at my head and rest my cuddling-baby arm on the vertical pillow. Keeps the stiff neck to a minimum. Like so:

Then we both lay on our sides and I adjust her head on my arm to tilt her head up and keep her nose clear. I tuck the pillow behind me along my back to keep my boobs and back arched a little forward, towards her. I C-hold until she latches, drape a prefold over the other, dripping/pouring nipple (nice and accessible for spit-up), and snooze.

We sleep across a queen-size with our feet hanging off to give Nicky & I more room. Oh, and my Tempurpedic!!

To begin with I prop my self up on my elbow and with that hand I cradle Avye's head so that her head is at the level of my nipple. I then c- hold until she latches. Then as I go to lay down I slide my arm underneath her head. We end up belly to belly with her head resting on my arm. Usually we both fall asleep in this position.

Oh, I remembered how I learned how now:

I would latch him on "normal" style, and then gently lower myself to a laying position.

Laying down nursing ROCKS.

Man it makes me glad I am blessed enough to nurse. I can't imagine standing at the sink waiting for a bottle every 2 hours. I am underslept as it is! :

But I guess I'm one of the few that finds ample boobies more of a hindrance to lying-down nursing than a help? My right side is significantly larger than my left (I'm prolly a D on the left and a very full DD on the right) and I find it much harder to night-nurse on the right. Very annoying, since I tend to try to make baby be satisfied with the left all night (because I'm half asleep and not thinking) so I end up with an annoyed and hungry baby, a sore right arm/back from sleeping all night in one position, and a very angry and engorged girl on my right!

Not good....much better if I can manage to wake up enough every other feed and change her diaper then sit to nurse on the right, then go back to bed. But I'm not always (ever?) thinking logically and clearly in the middle of the night, which is why I am now trying to get my wild bunch ready to go to the chiropractor!

SheBear- I have no clue if large breasts are a help or a hindrance, but I know I think it's pretty dang easy with my b cups, and I can't imagine nursing lying down with larger breasts. It's all what you're used to, I think!

I nestle him in my arm to raise him high enough to eat, and angle my body so the nipple's in the right position. A pillow behind my back helps so I don't feel strained. The only disadvantage is that my arm falls asleep eventually.

Sometimes I lay on my back with the boppy pillow on the nursing side to support my arm. Then I can let him sleep mostly tummy to tummy with me and nurse as needed.

That sounds like a plan. I'd considered it, but just hadn't tried it yet. She has such as small mouth & shallow latch that I've just about given up lying down nursing until she's bigger.

that's what's going on here as well

Same here... plus I find that he loses the latch easier with the side-lying and he's ultra cranky in the middle of the night when this happens...
