Talk about the little things you did today (or recently) - Page 7

I'm having a great day! Recently I decided to focus on the finite tasks on my to do list, rather than the "cook and clean, then cook and clean again tomorrow" type of tasks. (You don't want to know what we're eating and how the place looks, though. ) It's working great for me! I'm getting some important stuff done--moving forward on my health care application and doing some much needed self-care related tasks. Today I picked something up from the dr's office, advanced further in my health care application, did some substantial tidying up, took care of a couple more long-procrastinated tasks... and it was fun

I'm taking a little break now, and then I'll either shower and end for the day, or else do some decluttering as well

today i cleaned out and de-cluttered my spices and my mitten/hat/scarf basket. ahhhh!

So this is really small, but there has been an ironing board set up in my room for probably 6 months. It has become a catchall for random laundry that I didn't get put away, socks without matches, clothes the kids out grew, etc, etc.

I spent 20 minutes, sorted thru it all and got almost all of it put away in it's correct location, including one bag of garbage. I then folded up the ironing board and put it back in the closet where it belongs. It's amazing how much better the room looks just from that one little thing. (I still have a lot of work to do in there.)

PS Of course, I still have a big pile of socks that don't have matches, my goal for this week is to do all the laundry and clean out from under all the beds, at the end of the week if it doesn't have a match it is going in the trash, or maybe the kids and I will make a village of sockpuppets!

I collected seven pairs of shoes from my closet that no longer fit me since I had DD. I'm taking them to work b/c a friend there is my old size. What she doesn't like I'm taking to the Goodwill.

DH sold an old monitor on Craigslist and has listed four other things that are just taking up space. Yay!!!

I got all our Christmas stuff into 3 totes, one large and two small. I had had it down and put on a table out in our front room for a few weeks, but was dreading the organizing and packing stage. It always takes a few weeks for all the books, socks and random decorations to surface anyways.

So anyway, I donated more, and decided to finally get rid of the fake garland I haven't used in a few years. That freed up one huge tote. Now it all fits off the floor in the basement, except the one ornament -tree tote, that's stored high in the toy closet away from humitity and accidental damage. I made an executive discision to put the cards stuff away with the rest of my correspondance stuff. That way if I want to work on them earlier this year I won't have to rifle thru all the other stuff.

So now there is more space in the toy closet! So we organized toys, donated some and put everything where it belongs. Aahh! I love decluttering!

I started cleaning out the garage today. It is full of trash; just boxes and odds and ends. Lots of styrofoam from christmas presents that were delivered, then my puppy got into it all and tore it ALL to shreds; so its a huge mess I've been avoiding for a week. I started on it, put all the big trash in the trash cans, and swept the little bits into one big nasty pile that I still have to bag, but at least we can walk around in there now. Plus its still so : here that I can only be out there 15 mins at a time or my fingers freeze.
I have 2 bags and one big bulky plastic outdoor toy going to a new home of a freecycler tomorrow.
I finally switched my pots and pans cabinet w/ my dishes so the pans are near the stove and dishes are near the table.. so much easier this way, though my mind has to get used to the new set up!
I also took all the appliances crowding my counter up and gave them their own cabinet. Now all I have on the counters is the coffee pot and toaster, and the crockpot which I'm using right now, but can be put away when not being used. I freed up so much useful counter space, I love it!

I just cleaned off the top of my dd's dresser and got some of her Christmas presents out of the dining room. Her room is trashed and I've not let her bring her presents in, but I'm tired of the dining room being cluttered. I will help her clean her room, but we are making a playroom in the basement and until I can take the toys in her room downstairs, it's going to be hard for her to clean, so it's all just backing up and driving me nuts! lol

I saw this thread yesterday and it motivated me to get moving on my lengthy to-do list. Today I started on laundry (and will be going into the night), removed the ornaments from the tree (yes, the tree is still up...but being recycled this week!), swept the floors and stairs, vacuumed the playroom, started cleaning up the random stuff in our bedroom and putting things where they belong and thanks to DH keeping an eye on DS, I was able to start putting things into our office. We moved 2 months ago and I still had everything labeled "office" in boxes.

Still so much to do, but I'm making some nice progress today!

I do love this thread. It helps me to get a bit done each week.

Today I did....Ready....Nothing.

And really I think I'm okay with that.

oo adtake, i love seeing pics of what you've done! i may have to do that instead of waiting for an entire room to be finished.

today i cleared out the car (again! we're selling it) and i put away most of the stuff. then i cleared a corner of the deck, and put our new worm compost there, yay! and started assembling stuff to bed the compost - the children gathered lovely dead leaves from the forest floor on our hike! i wiped clean + reorganised under the sink to fit the compost bucket, and began putting vegetable peelings in, lovely!!

i'm dragging about, more or less, i hope to have more energy this week.

Thanks artparent! For me it is much easier to tackle one 'area' at a time than a whole room! I would be totally overwhelmed if I had to look at a whole room..lol It was nice to get the babies stuff in order! I've got a few months still, but I needed it to be done!

Oooo...I don't envy you having to keep the car clean! There is nothing harder than keeping being used car clean with kids!! My husband is shocked at how quick the van gets dirty.

Wow you should be REALLY proud of yourself! Especially doing that while pregnant! You seem really prepared.

Today I didn't do much, but when I had a chance without ds I re-attacked the mold in my bedroom. Just cleaning it off the walls. Then I noticed the floor was really dirty underneath the furniture so I moved it all around to sweep and mop. I also did a bit of dusting.

mm, well we're going to rejoin the car co-op now that we haven't got a small babe, and we'll have to empty the cars we use immediately. it is a good habit, which i lost

Well, since we had a party the other day for dd1, I did a pretty decent job of decluttering every room, by throwing misplaced items in boxes and bins - then stuffed them all in my and dh's room for the party. BUT, for the first time ever, dh helped me go through all the boxes and bins (and clothes on the floor) in our room so we made huge headway getting things back to their respective places. I just have 2 small bins of my stuff I will tackle today.

It made such a difference to have the help. I would have been mired in it for most of the day.

Yeah for my dh!

I went to the bulk food store for necessities and came home to declutter the pantry and fridge. I washed out some canning jars and labled and stored all the baking/cooking staples I bought. Except the flour. I need to find some gallon sized jars for storing the flours ( I have 3 kinds). I also cleaned out the lazy susan and reorganized it. It turns much better now.

Anyhow, it's all looking much better.

I put bagged beans in a recycled salsa jar and put the spaghetti in a bail top pasta jar.

I sent to bins of books to storage and one bin of toys to storage. DH vacumed the childrens play room, and I put all their dress-up clothes in a wicker basket. Other then the top closet shelf that room is done.

I am now ready for bed.

But DH just informed me that DS stuck his finger down his throat and threw up all over everything so it looks like there will be another load of laundry to do. Sigh.
