So why is it so difficult to find knits, jersey, or interlock?

I went to Joann Fabrics today and as I was told, there were virtually no knits, jerseys, or interlock to be found. Why is this? The cashier said they haven't been getting any for sometime and they stopped stalking them like they used to. I guess I will have to join a fabric co-op or something.

Jo Anns is weird, I'll never understand why they don't stock cotton knits in the summer. Oh but lots of polyester:

ANyways, Hancock fabrics has quite a selection as does the following places:

http://www.mainstreetbymail.com/volu...8_number_2.htm

http://www.sewbaby.com/fabrics.html

www.fabric.com

http://zoodads.com/knits/

http://www.dimplesfabric.com/Items/F...s_for_boys.htm

I know you probably didn't want to pay for shipping, but at least there is some stuff out there.

Ooooh and hemp jersey is great! Get some of that and some ribbing and dye it yourself

And don't forget coops. There's lots of knit jersey and PRR going out in the coops.

your welcome! The mainstreet by mail one is cool. If I didn't have so much fabric (coming out of my ears) I'd buy up those delicious stripes! Ah well must use what I have.

Check in over at Amitymama on the sewing forum http://www.amitymama.com/vb/forumdis...une=&forumid=7 Sherrie/Playpenlady is always selling off extra knits(& other goodies) from her co-ops.

Just wanted to chime in and say I agree - I've had the same problem. It's very hard to find knits, and it even harder to find 100% cotton, or any knits that don't feel scratchy and plastic-y. I don't usually shop at Walmart, but a friend had good luck there. She found some really soft thermal knit, but I'm not sure if it's 100% cotton.

Is it the sleepwear thing - that fabric stores only stock polyester knits for children because they're considered safer in case of fire?

i was going to suggest the same ones as alison did, and did she mention www.sewbaby.com? that's a good one too! also, i've ordered from dimples fabric, but got some fabric that VERY obviously was POLY, but listed as 100% cotton - when i contacted the wahm/site owner she got all snippity and never offered to correct the issue. pretty much inferred that i was out of luck, so i won't order from her again...anyways...
