New to the entire concept of CDing

I'd like to use CD's for this child from the start. I've never used CDs before and am a little surprised to find out that you can make them and that there might even be patterns and designs. Do yo just make to "cover" part? or the diaper too? What do I need to know the most making this transition from disposeable to cloth? Thank for your help!

it depends on what system of CDing you want to use. I personally use prefold diaprs and covers. I purchased the prefolds online and I make the covers. I think this is the simplest form of diapering and the covers are the easiest things to make! You can make the prefold diaper as well if you want. I have made a few fitted diapers to use with the covers as well but my daughter outgrew them very fast and I haven't gotten around to making more. You can also make an all-in-one type diaper that doesn't need a separate cover if you want to go that route. Just look around on the net and learn about thee different kinds and then when you decide on a type, you'll be able to find a pattern for it.

Yes, you can make the diapers as well as the covers. I have a little site with free instructions for making 3 different types of diapers (flatfolds, prefolds, and fitteds) and suggestions for different types of wool covers - all made from scavenged clothing. If you plan to sew your diapers, that is definitely where I would start - with recycled clothing as your fabric. Once you get better at sewing then, and know what you like, then you may want to splurge on some new specialty fabrics.
