Its a Girl! PICTURES and BIRTH STORY added

I finally had my baby! I had food poisoning last night which kicked me into labor. Viano Ruth was born at 1:52 pm, after about 3 hours total of labor. Dan (DH) caught her.

We went to our midwives office on Sunday afternoon, which is about an hour and a half away. On the way home we decided to get McDonald's and let the kids play on the playplace. As we were leaving, Dan (DH) and I both commented on how nasty the food was and how gross we both felt. We went home and did normal stuff and went to bed. Later, I woke up and started vomiting. Then I would crawl back into bed, try to fall asleep, and have a big contraction, wake up, and vomit again. All night. It was awful. In the morning, I continued to have contractions, but they were pretty irregular, about every 15 minutes or so. At 11, my mom got to my house (she was coming from VT), and Dan came home at about 11:30. I had called Brenda (my midwife) at some point and told her that I wasn't sure whether this was "it" or not, but something was going on. At that time, my contractions were still pretty irregular, sometimes they were 5 minutes apart, sometimes they were 20 minutes apart. I wasn't sure if I was in labor or not. I continued to have contractions like that. We ate lunch (well, not me, but everyone else), and then Dan put Julian down for a nap. Then he brought Danny outside to play. At some point, one of the midwives called and Dan and my mom talked to her.

It was amazing how different the contractions were NOT being on pitocin. I mean, they still sucked, but I could talk and breathe and walk in between them. At about 1:15 or so, I vomited again. I figured I was just sick still. And my legs were super shaky. Then all of the sudden, I realized I was pushing. So I had Dan set up the pool, and got in it. My body would push on every contraction, which was different than the coached counting by hospital nurses in my previous births. My midwife Brenda came and saw me in the tub, quietly said hi, and then went into the living room with my mom and Danny. At some point, I got up and was leaning over the edge of the pool. In one big contractions I pushed her head about halfway out. That is when I started screaming. Oh my Gosh! That hurt so much, I was like, man get her OUT or back IN, but her head cannot stay there! Brenda came into the kitchen then (she probably thought I was dying due to my hysterical screaming ) Brenda asked if I wanted to stand up, and I did, and then on the next contraction, she came right out. Dan caught her and then handed her to me through my legs. I guess her cord was wrapped around her neck twice, but I didn't even know that until later. We sat down and she nursed right away. The other 2 midwives came in around then. My placenta took a little while to come out, which was annoying to me, but then it finally came out, and was fine. There was a question of retained membrane, but nothing to worry about.

I tore a tiny bit (more of a skid mark), but it was completely healed by the next day. She is just so perfect and we all adore her so much.

Oh yea, and as far as her name goes - Viano was Dan's grandmother's name. (pronounced Vee-AH-no) She was Finnish. Thats as much as we know about the name, except that we love it. I've never seen it in a baby name book and even looking online I can't find it, so I'm not sure what it means. My MIL thinks it may be the Finnish version of Vivien? And her middle name, Ruth, we just love. Actually, we found out later that Ruth was my MIL's grandmother's name, which is nice, because we like using family names.

Food poisoning and pregnancy do not go well together.

You are all "high" on birth hormones though...so you probably think "That was AWESOME!"

(And of course, it was AWESOME! )
