Owen Stephen was born Saturday afternoon (1/5). It was truly amazing. We accomplished an unmedicated birth and despite late pregnancy concerns (IUGR), Owen came into this world at 6lbs 15oz and 19.5in at just a few days over 40wks. Contractions started around 12:30am saturday, we went in to be checked at 9am when they were 3min apart and I was only 3cm, didn't progress by 1pm, finally decided to have my water broken at 1:30 and he was born at 3:54. Dh was the most amazing birth partner and helped me stay focused and basically read my mind the entire time. The last 35min were spent in the tub where I went from 5cm to fully dilated (that was the intense part). I moaned through a surge, announced I was ready to push and the MW got me out. Pushing felt SOOOO good....which was not exactly what I expected. 6 minutes and several empowering pushes and he was with us, beautiful and crying and they allowed him to stay on my chest for 30min while the cord was still attached. He nursed right away and was so incredibly alert.
We came home yesterday and I'm still very tired, but happy to be hibernating in bed and nursing away. Dd is so happy to be the big sister and we are all just happy to be together!
I plan to write the birth story later this week and will post pictures with it. I am so excited to hear about the rest of our births in "Jan '08"....I'm tuned in and sending good birthing vibes to everyone who is still on deck!
