Gassy baby!

I have one gassy baby on my hands! Nothing seems to help. I gave up dairy thinking maybe that was causing the gas, but nope. I've tried the ovol, gripe water, homeopathic colic remedies.... done the massage, and different burping holds. Any other ideas? I'm worried that something might really be wrong because it upsets him so much. HELP!

dairy (and its many derivatives) can remain in your system for up to 2 weeks, unfortunately. have you also cut out the common offenders (broccoli, beans, onions, etc)? ooooohhhh, i have walked down that awful road. i really sympathize. i recommend giving it a little longer before you decide that cutting out dairy isn't helping.

i hope that you find an answer soon. have you checked in on the bfing boards? i am sure you could find a lot of support there.

wishing you peace, knowing there's little as upsetting as a crying baby...

have you tried (and I'm sure you have) the bycycle pump? At least that's what I call it...where you pump there little legs as if they are on a bike. That has always helped me.

to you mama.....there is nothing worse than trying everything you possibly can and still nothing works. If all else fails-go with your gut!

We had gas and colic issues w/ DS. We were first advised to cut out dairy. Although that may have helped a little it wasn't the only culpret. Next we took out Gluten....and BINGO. May not be the same for you, but we saw an almost instant turn around. With in a week he was a totally different baby....so much less fussy!

i agree with the previous posts, and also recommend sticking with the gripe water. the fennel and ginger, as with any herbs, need a bit of time to start working effectively. you should always give herbs at least 2 weeks to begin to become active in the system.

We also used gripe water w/ the dietary changes. Worked for us!

Another thing we did was took advantage of using chiropractic care to make sure there weren't underlying causes that could be affecting the nervous system in turn affecting digestion. Birth is rough on their little bodies...sometimes they just need a few adjustments.

My first was crazy gassy and turns out he had a milk protein allergy. I eliminated all dairy and it was a couple of weeks but he did get much better. You might try eliminating dairy for now and see how it goes....it will take a couple of weeks to get out of your system though.

I will chime in with the others in agreement. It did take a while for the dairy to get out of my system and I had to read labels and eliminate all dairy even when its called by a different name. The breastfeeding boards were excellent sources of info as well as health and healing allergies boards.

We did the bicycle pump and gas drops, gripe water, all of it and it just took a while. I also carried babe in a sling for comfort with him sitting upright and his legs curled up to his chest and very snug. Laying down for him seemed to be more uncomfortable.

Hugs to you! A gassy baby is the wost, so hard to try and figure it all out.

OK, well I thought I'd mention this because I *just* watched the DVD last night. Oh, I totally agree with all the other posters too about food issues. We've so been there too!

But we watched the DVD "Happiest Baby on the Block" (got it from the library.) He shows some pretty good soothing techniques, and he makes a point of saying that gas shouldn't cause *so* much trouble, and that it's just a matter of finding the precise "calming reflex" for your baby. I don't know if it's all hogwash or what, but it looked good on the video!

My first was so terribly gassy and had the most difficult time burping/farting. My lifesaver was a moby wrap. I'd wrap him close/tight and walk for about 30 mins to an hour. The gas would slowly come out.

I was vegan with my first so I hadn't had dairy in years. Soy, gluten, etc may have been the culprits but I don't know . . . I never knew to do an elimination diet for gas. I still feel guilty.

I hope your babe feels better soon.

I forgot to add that I had to eliminate soy as well as dairy. Soy protiens are very similar to dairy protiens in size and can cause similar problems.
