Help me find a story...

Okay, I read a short story in Science Fiction Digest (I think???) in the late 80s/early 90s.

It was a futuristic novel, about a gang of women who rebelled against society's norm and refused to get a shot that would prevent menstruation. They wore red bandannas tied around around their arms to signify that they menstruated.

Anyone have any clue?

It looks like it's called "Even The Queen" by Connie Willis. It was first published in [Isaac] Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine in April 1992, and won the Hugo and Nebula awards for Best Short Story in 1993. Among others.

Here's a few more links: One / Two.

That sounds like an interesting read.

It appears the original magazine can be purchased here , but apparently was only otherwise published as an audiobook, read by the author. Those can be purchased here or here. Ebay has a few copies, but they're more expensive.

VERY interestingly, I discovered when looking this up that Connie Willis is going to be at a writer's workshop this summer with my favourite author, Chuck Palahniuk. Even better, it's being held in Seattle, which is about 10 miles from me. Well, dang!
