ANYBODY AWAKE? Water Breaking? Help?!

My discharge has increased SIGNIFICANTLY tonight. I am thinking maybe it's my water breaking, but it's coming in gushes (note the plural) about 15-20 minutes apart, not one big gush. Enough to completely wet my panties, and the last time, enough to wet a maxi pad. I've probably had 4-5 gushes so far. And I think I started having Braxton Hicks contractions, but I'm not sure. They were really close together for about a half hour (like 2 minutes apart), if that's what they were. I hardly ever get menstrual cramps, but the discomfort reminded me of that. Kinda like how it feels when I'm feeling I need to go poop, but this is much much less intense.

The discharge has some milky whote mucus associated with it. And I haven't lost my mucus plug that I know of. With two different gushes, I did see two specks of blood though. ?? I mean small specks, like they would be the size of a needle head.

Everytime I get up or move a little, there seems to be a little more "water/discharge" coming out. It's been going on since 3:30am, and it's now 5:15am.

How can I test it to make sure it's amniotic fluid? I read I could use a litmus paper?

Is it all starting? Or is this just watery discharge? Help!

um, i've never started like that before, but it certainly sounds like you could be in labor. i know there are tests you can do to determine the presence of amniotic fluid, but i'm unsure of what they are. i'll keep watching this post, and i'm sure someone will jump in who knows more.

best to you!

I have heard of fluid gushing like that. Could be labor, but it might not be. I'd say your best bet is to call your OB or MW and let them know what's going on. :bighug Good luck!

Sounds like your water broke to me.. thats how it was for me when my water broke with my dd.. sounds like you are having your baby today mama!

Congratulations: Your gonna be holding your new little one before you know it. It is very common once the water is broken to still gush in intervalls. Partly this is because your fluid does reginerate to some extent, if your doing this at home keep up on you water intake. It will help with exhaustion and dehydration. Also as you walk your pelvis opens allowing fluid that is above the baby to slip past, thus the extra gushes.

This is exciting, good luck and big prayers comming your way.

If you are delivering at home, definetly call the midwives. If with an OB at a hospital I wouldn't call unless your ready to go or have some concerns. They always want you to come right in. Labor could take a while and home is way more comfy than the hospital.

Yep I'd vote it's your fluids gushing. With dd#1 my water broke and the midwife said you can tell it's your water breaking (and not pee or lochia) because it can run down your leg all the way to the ankle, and urine doesn't act like that. I guess urine drips but your amniotic fluid runs down like that. Healthy labour vibes to you! Keep us posted! :

Sounds gross, but smell. If its sweet smelling, it is your amionic(sp) fluid. With DD, I wasn't sure, so I smelt, it definatly wasn't urine smelling and it was sweet. Happy Labour vibes!

Yep. I am sure it's my water/amniotic fluid now. How long did it take me? 4 hours? After a certain point (like when my maxi pad was completely soaked after an hour), I will finally admit that I'm well on my way to having my babe in my arms, hopefully in a day or so. OMG! OMG! OMG! I am not ready!

And ironically, I was the one who posted a thread a couple days ago about being impatient for this little guy to come out. Ha!

OMG OMG OMG

Thanks ladies for the quick replies. You made this much much less stressful for me :

I agree with the "stay at home" advice - my water broke with ds and labour didn't start right away, so I was wandering the halls at the hospital ALLLLL night, and missed out on a night of sleep. Rest and labour at home while you can. Keep us updated!

I'm sure my husband will oblige!

And after I wrote my last post, I got up and BOOM, a huge gush of water down my legs. Thankfully I'm at home, and thankfully I had a sweatshirt handy so my carpet didn't get wet! There's no denying it now. HOLY CRAP!!

PS I'm feeling the good vibes from you all, and it's making me happy
