quilted curtain question

Thread Starter
I am getting ready to make a new shower curtain and window curtain for our bathroom. I want to piece the window curtain (it is for a small window) and I wonder if I should just put a backing on and "quilt" through the two layers. Do I really need a layer of batting for something lightweight like that? Or should I just put in a layer of the lightest fabric I can find?

batting in it will give you some insulation, and block more light, but if youre just going for blocking the view, then I wouldn't bother putting batting in it.

some quilts were made with no batting at all for use in the summer or warm climates, just the top and the bcking. They are also nice for tablecloths too since you don't have the bulk.

one thing to remember when the cutain is hung when there is light behind it from the outside it will be more see through and your inside seams allowences will somewhat show, not a bad thing, but may want to be sure you are neater with them.

I have a couple of velvet patchwork curtains here, no batting but does have backing and when it's sunny out it reminds me of stained glass. I didn't quilt mine.
