Actually, I'm not sure what my question is. I'm still thinking things through.
I'm 39 weeks pregnant. I have a 4 year old and I had two losses in 2006. I'm taking Lovenox for a clotting disorder and being seen by midwives who are backed up by OBs. The pregnancy has been uneventful, thank goodness.
So, after much fretting about the clotting disorder issue, something else entirely has come up. Yesterday at my appointment my blood pressure was elevated. It was around 155/98 at its highest. They sent me over to L&D for additional tests and monitoring. I got two blood tests - I think BUN and creatinine? I have no idea how to spell that. And another urine test. All those came back great. Virtually no swelling. I had one reflux reaction that was above normal but then several others that were normal.
I was on the blood pressure monitor for a couple of hours. My BP dropped slowly, getting down to 145/85 and then even 138/75 by the last reading.
I definitely have a history of my blood pressure going up when I'm stressed and I may have been more stressed yesterday. But stress usually pushes it to 140/90 and not more than that. The midwives want me on modified bedrest and I go back on Friday for another BP check though I think just at the office.
It's true that I haven't slowed down really at all. I have been working full time at a job that I love. I sit at a desk, but it's hard to get my feet up and it's a job with a decent amount of stress. It's kind of killing me not to be at work right now though also not all bad to be home in my glider chilling out.
I'm a vegetarian and I probably got lax on protein consumption in the last week or so. I'm correcting that now by sucking down lots of tofu and similar veggie protein.
I guess my question is this. How seriously do I take all this? THis morning when I woke up I took my BP and it was 135/83 or so. That was before I got out of bed. I don't feel bad or any different so it's kind of hard to change my life around. On the other hand, I really want to do everything I can to have a natural childbirth.
I mostly trust these careproviders. I'm planning to give birth in a birth center in a hospital and the whole practice is pretty non-interventionist. But they are taking the blood pressure thing seriously, so should I?
Thanks for any advice.
Sarah
