I totally hear you. Yes, I found it helped. It felt really good. Yet, I never wear it, so obviously it doesn't make me feel good enough to go through the trouble. My aches and pains have been far less this pregnancy, so I haven't really felt that I needed it, except maybe a week there a couple of months ago.

I had my stomach muscles cut at the age of 6 so I have always had a poochy belly. Even after my cousin told me in JR high that if I did enough situps every day that would go away. So after about two years of doing 300+ situps every day and there wasn't one bit of change I gave up. As I have gained weight over the years my poochy tummy has just gotten bigger. I was unable to find a maternity belt that fit me well enough. I bought one at a local store and wore it for about a week. My belly just continued to get bigger so I took it to a lady from church who is a brilliant seamstress and she made me a front piece to use that was wider and longer than the front piece that came with it.

It works really well! It's just a curved piece of quilted fabric with velcro strips on the two ends. She said that if I needed it to be more of a cradle all I needed to do was put a dart in the top center of it.

Hope you find something that works for you.

Argh... under most circumstances I'd be happy about this, but not while pregnant. I've lost 10 lbs.

I keep trying to eat. Really, I do. I know that I shouldn't worry about this, and I've even told other people to not worry about it, but still...

I've lost weight too. But now at 23 weeks I think I've at least broken even or perhaps gained a pound.
Now, at 22w my score is -2 lbs. I was at -4 lbs but I gained 2 lbs back last month.

I'm at 27 weeks and still doing the yo-yo thing with my weight. It's starting to worry me a little, too! I was SO proud this week because I was FINALLY up 2 lbs. (for a total 12 lb gain), but now we've dropped back down again by 3 for a total of only 9 lb. gain. I'm eating, seems like more than ever! I know the baby is really moving into that growth phase now. Shouldn't even us plus-sizers be putting on a couple of pounds a month these last couple of months?? I feel like I should *at least* be on a slow but steady upward course - losing weight and bouncing up and down at this point seems bad.

I've finally bumped back up to my pre-pregnancy weight! I had lost 7lbs when sick and a few pounds before that. So now at 23 weeks with an obvious belly I weigh the same as before pregnancy.

I sure don't look the same though!

In a few more weeks I think I'll be obviously pregnant and not just have a big belly that is questionable.

I always hope that when I'm walking around with my kids that its obvious but not everyone would make that connection I'm sure.

I'm going to have dh or a friend take belly shots for me because my attempts keep ending up blurry.

I'm still at -10, but okay with that.....at least that's how it was a couple of weeks ago at my last appt. And I've noticed the last week or so that if I wear a maternity shirt, I am looking very questionably pregnant. Whoo Hoo!

I'm meeting with a midwife for the first time next Tuesday. I'm kind of nervous... she seems like a really cool person, but having never met her before, I worry in the back of my mind that she won't work with me because of my weight. I don't know if she'd consider that an "at risk" thing or not.

I feel kinda silly about it, but it's still niggling at my brain all the same.

subbing and introducing

Hi - I'm expecting #2 in Sept. I've been overweight my entire life and am currently 224 and 5'6". I've lost 4 lbs from my pre-preg weight. I'm also nursing my 15 mo old ds.

Happy to meet you all!

If she does have a problem then just move on! Greener and better and all that....

Yeah, I know... I've just tried so hard to find one and this one (I've spoken with her over the phone) seems to jive with my way of thinking and everything, plus she's really affordable.

Just first-meeting jitters.

Then I'm sure it won't be a problem. If she does have any reservations at all I'm sure you can come up with all sorts of research to support your claim that weight plays extremely little to no role in the health of your pregnancy.

My baby was born!

Dylan Jay was born in the caul* at home, in his mama's bed, on Wednesday, March 19th at 11:34am. After a few false starts in the previous 1 1/2 weeks, he was born relatively swiftly after just 2 or so hours of hard labor and 45 minutes of pushing (woo-hoo). He weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz, 21" long. He was born looking absolutely perfect, just like his big sister. She was not in the room the moment he was born, but came running in seconds after to see him. She was utterly delighted and seems (mostly) very happy to have a little brother. Mama, papa, big sis, and baby brother are all doing well.

Congratulations! :

Oh I had my baby too! After 4 hours of labor, Zoƫ was born unassisted in the backseat of my friends car. I didn't even push. She is 7lbs 13 oz and arrived on 3/14/08.

khanni, congrats! how did you deal with the in the caul part?
You know, I was on hands and knees so I missed the whole thing. I was aware at some point that the bag hadn't broken, but I didn't think much about it. My midwives broke it after his head was out, I believe, to help him with getting his shoulders through. I didn't see any of it. But, it was really cool because I was kind of obsessed with the idea when I was pregnant with #1 because I was GBS+ (GBS- this time though).

Congratulations to you, too!

Congratulations Kara and Khanni!

Khanni, have you read The Birth House? It's the only thing I've ever read that had a baby born in the caul. It's a novel but I think it's supposed to be a historical novel and apparently it's lucky. In that book they saved the caul and put it in a locket to be worn around the neck. Very cool!

I think my joints must be loosening up. I'm in my 25th week and so I'm a little disappointed that this is happening so early. I think it's probably more age related (I'm 37, will be 38 at the end of June) than weight but who knows. It takes very little physical work for me to get a sore lower back and sometimes it just feels like my hips will just fall apart (or maybe because it's baby #3?). Anyway, my husband is deployed and so I'm left with hauling wood for the woodstove (we still have snow on the ground) and all those other tasks. Anyone else feeling like this so early in pg? Any suggestions (no dh for massages either!).

Good to be here!
