Looking for another "Twilight"?

Thread Starter
If you enjoyed reading Twilight series (Meyer), are there any other books you could compare it to (involving romance, vampires, or both)?
I'm a little worried that I'm going to be left with a void as soon as I'm done with Eclipse. I can't believe I have to wait until fall 2008 for the next one

Thanks a lot! I thought you were going to have a great recommendation for me!

Not sure if these are close enough, but Holly Black's YA Faerie trilogy (Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside) might be okay for you - supernatural YA romance (no vampires though - and not quite as melodramatic as Twilight). However I should disclose that I am one of the few who didn't care for Twilight. :

Not *really* the same, but very enjoyable:

Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler

I actually thought Fledgling was better than the Twilight series.

Peeps, by Scott Westerfeld. DD loved it.

Warning: you may be offended.

I thought about this one, but I don't remember it having the romance aspect... At least not like the twilight books. Maybe I'm wrong? But it was an interesting vampire idea. I think there is a sequel now, but I haven't read it.

OP - are you looking for YA only? Because there are quite a few more adult vampire/supernatural/romance authors and series. The violence and umm "romance" is definitely more adult than Twilight.
Adult:
There is always Anne Rice
Charlaine Harris' Sookie stackhouse books
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
And a ton of series that I haven't read - I think Kim Harrison is the author of one of the longer series. If you go to Amazon and type in any of those authors you will get a ton of the "if you like these try these" type links.

Again, none of these really have the same feel as Twilight, and if you want to stay with the YA flavor, then these aren't for you!

I have to second Robin McKinley's "Sunshine". Just a wonderful book.

It's not vampires, and it is historical but...

A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY by Libba Bray

There's a set about werewolves that was REALLY good. Let me go Google it.
I think one of them was titled Bitten.

Kelley Armstrong is the author and two of the books are Bitten and Stolen. I think there was a third in the series...I can't remember. She has others, but I haven't read those.

Anne Rice is good, too.

Yeah, OP, if you're not looking for YA only, and don't mind more "adult" themes, then The Hollows series by Kim Harrison (first book is Dead Witch Walking) is AWESOME. I'm looking forward to the next in the series as much as I am for the next Twilight book!

Other series in the same vein are:
The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs (first book is Moon Called)
Kitty and the...series by Carrie Vaughn (first book is Kitty and the Midnight Hour)
Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse is hilarious, but they can feel formulaic, but I still enjoy them and look forward to new installments.

Oh, and a YA vampire series you might want to check out (not nearly as romance-y as Twilight but there is some love interest and other good stuff anyway) is The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine - the first in the series is Glass Houses.

I think I know how you feel, wanting to get swept away in a story???

Well, if you haven't read The Outlander Series, please run to your nearest library or bookstore and jump in!

They really are wonderful, the writing is superb too.

I will always equate the summer of 2003 as the Outlander summer...

(oooh how I loved Bella & Edward too...)

Blessings,
