Hm..that may be my sense of humor again. I find him absolutely hilarious, but I also thought God Emperor was hilarious. I love Brust.

Neal Stephenson -- The Diamond Age, as well as Snow Crash and then The Baroque Cycle - series starts with Quicksilver and the Newton during the recoinage

---Zelanzy'-- the Amber series got boring after a while- but I really like A Night in Lonesome October- very funny

Spider Robinson -- he most recently finished a novel from a Heinlein outline-Variable Star, I particularly enjoy his Callahan's series
