do you do anything special? m is excl BF but i've been rinsing even tho i know her poo is h2o soluble. we are in a huge apt bldg w//shared laundry. i do a hot wash & cold rinse w/purex f&c, and dry on high heat. if it matters we'tre using PFs, fitteds, thirsties covers, BG 2.0 pockets & AIOs, happy heiny's pkts.

if i stop rinsing do i have to do anything special when washing?

I'm doing exactly what you are, but I add a prewash at the beginning. I wonder if I could stop doing that . . .

i rinse with this awesome little mini-shower that fits on the toilet, and then we wash our prefolds in hot water and dry on normal. my mom did a few loads with a prewash cycle, but they really don't need it.

i'm curious abt not rinsing, too. [popcorn-eating icon would go here if i had two hands]

We are also have shared laundry. I do the exact same as you mmemuffin but I put the washing machine on the superwash, which is kind of like a prewash. Seems to work just fine though my BG's are stained now. Anyone know how to get rid of the stains?

Oh but I don't bother rinsing avye's diapers. So far so good. I use a flushable liner for Sofie's but her dirty diapers are just nasty!! especially after blueberry's!

well, i'm no expert but w/ ours (flats, fitted and thick training pants) we use warm/warm w/ extra rinse cycle (don't have prewash option). dried on low, since we have old wiring in our 1917 house. some stains, but i don't think them smell.

I dont rinse off poop for BF poops I do a cold rinse cycle then hot wash cold rinse then dry on high heat

I usually spray off poopies with the mini shower and do a pre-soak, hot wash, extra cold rise but with a HE washer, I'm not sure how much actual 'soaking' goes on - I think they just get wet and sit. This load I haven't sprayed the poopies off, so I'll see if there's any staining.

ETA - I run a 'rinse and spin' cycle on my washer before I kick off the actual wash cycle.

nak

Cold rinse first. Then hot wash with tiny amt of Allen's. Hot dry. No stains...even meconium came out after coupla washes. Mostly Kissaluvs fitteds, some prefolds & Thirsties covers.

For staining, try sitting dipes in the sun.

no, i r i don't do a hand rinse - so i guess my prewash is my version (it's just a setting on the washing machine that fills up w/water, agitates a few min., and spins - then i do a superwash regular cycle)

Just checked on my dipes - a HE washer + unrinsed poopies = dipes with poopies on them after a 20 minute 'rinse and spin' cycle.

We don't rinse, just do a hot soak w/ Borax for 30-45min. before washing. We have a portable Thor washer/dryer combo and wash on cold w/ Arm & Hammer Free. No stains or anything so I'm pretty happy.

I don't do anything to bf poo dipes before tossing them in the washer. I toss them in, put a small amt of detergent, run them through a hot/cold cycle on the large load setting, then reset it for another hot/cold cycle without detergent. We have a h/e front loader, so it doesn't use much water.

I just this week put ds2 back in cloth--we've used disp since Thanksgiving, just to make things easier for me. For nasty toddler poops, I shake out what I can in the toilet, then throw the dipe (yes, just one dipe) into the wsher on a cold cycle, smallest load setting. tiny dab detergent. Run it through and let the machine do the dirty work for me! The small setting uses about the same amt of water as flushing the toilet twice, so it all works out about the same, imo....except I don't have to mess with the messy diapers, LOL!

Since I'm dealing with toddler diapers now as well as newborn, I occasionally run a small washer cycle with bleach (no laundry) to clean/deodorize the drum. The only other "special" thing I do is check the drum for any...er..."indigestibles" as necessary! I just take a wipe and clean out any fruit skins that might have managed to make it through the whole process, LOL!

Seriously though....anyone who takes such pride in nasal-mining really ought not to be bothered by the idea of bf poo in the washer!

lol! thats the whole point! i wanna make sure that rinsing is as unnecessary as i thought! if i need to do anything fancy like another rinse cycle or prewash, its an extra $1.25 per load, and i'd rather rinse each dipe by hand cuz i'm cheap.

ok awesome. i'm just gonna not rinse, throw em into hot wash/cold rinse, and see what happens. why am i getting stains, btw, when y'all arent? jerks.

I do a cold soak for about 20mins first before washing, otherwise I do the same things as the OP. I don't rinse the poo. It's bf poo and that's nearly impossible.

i'm getting stains from the BF poops, too. this week i used bio-kleen (sp?) detergent. we normally use allen's, so i'll switch back to see if there's a difference. i bet there is, though, b/c i rarely have staining on my bigger diaps for ds....

oh i've gotten stains. and it's too cold (read: i'm too lazy) to go sun them out. i just assumed stains were a given w/bf poo!
I am getting stains with the bf poos too! All my nice white BG are stained. I bought some Bamboozles the other day, and they are all stained now too. Oh well, in the summertime I'll sun them. Way too cold right now!
