What's everyone's opinion on this? The mother was on the Today show offering her apologies. I didn't see it,but read the transcript.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I don't think the mother was confused about the contest rules. I think she wanted her dd to win and thought a letter from a cute little girl about a dead soldier father would get a lot of sympathy even if it didn't happen.
I wonder what her dd thought about it when her mom said "write that your father is dead" or if the girl even saw the essay that she supposedly wrote.
I feel bad for the little girl. It's too bad this couldn't have been handled privately for her sake.

I only read an article about the whole thing. I did not read or watch the mom's apology. But my gut feeling is totally in line with what the previous poster said.
I feel really bad for the little girl.

The mother knew exactly what she was doing. She seems really awful, frankly. I just feel bad for the little girl. Seeing Hannah Montana live was probably one of her biggest dreams. I know it's probably not as simple as this, but couldn't they have printed up just one more ticket so the real winner and the girl could go too?
