vitex confusion!!!

hi there, i am 4 1/2 weeks pregnant (in that way that they start counting from the first day of my last menstrual period), conceived on the 18th or 19th of December.

i know that you don't necessarily take vitex during pregnancy... but it can be taken if there are concerns about progesterone level, miscarriage, etc.

i have been taking vitex the whole time i was charting.... and there's no reason to think from my charts that there's any progesterone issues... but then again, maybe that's because i was taking vitex?

my acupuncturist asked her naturopath pal what to do, and the naturopath said i should stop the vitex

but i'm a little edgy about it. should i just go cold turkey like that? or wean off? or not? i'm not due to go back to midwife till 2/1.

how fast might my progesterone drop if it was the vitex keeping it at a healthy level?

any ideas appreciated...

My ND, who is also a midwife, said I could go off vitex as soon as I got a bfp.

The way vitex works is to stimulate the glands that start the process of ovulation and only stimulates the progestrone via the chain effect of stimulating ovulation. This means that stopping vitex will not tank your progestrone.

IIWY, I'd call my midwife and ask her.

Even though I posted that it would be fine to stop vitex now (I still say that!) I think it is a great idea to call your midwife with this question. Start that relationship development early! You should feel free to call with all those little questions you are going to have throughout your pregnancy. If she (I'm assuming your MW is female) doesn't encourage that then you would want to know that early in your pg so you can find some one who does want your questions.

I talk to my MW at least every other week and I'm not even preggers yet. I just used her for my preconception evaluation. Then again she is a friend of the household and gave us our precon appt and precon services as a wedding gift.

the nurse from the midwife's office called me back and said its safe for me to stay on the vitex till i have my next visit (feb 1, which will be week 8), and then we'll figure out what to do then.

thanks everyone!
