where/how to get started

I am still undecided, but I am leaning towards homeschooling my 3 year old. (I also have a 6 month old nursling)

He has an extreme speech delay and is taking speech therapy sessions twice a week at the school, which he loves. I am thrilled that he is loving it. Last year he was very clingy and didn't want me to go. He loves this new teacher!

Well, I figured he could get the speech therapy he needs there, and I could teach him everything else at home. He really needs individual attention, and I just don't think a school could give him that. I am also scared to leave him anywhere, because he has a tendency to run off. Very scary.

In your opinion, what are the best books to read or the best websites to learn from in order to get started in homeschooling? I need the basics, then more in-depth and step by step. I am interested in a Christian-based learning curriculum.

Thanks!

Hi Angelica ~

It's nice to see another Christian homeschooler here! I would suggest finding a HS group in your area. You might start by calling churches in the area to see if they have a group. You can also search online.

A few books that have good info are:
HS'ing The Early Years: Your Complete Guide to Successfully HS'ing Your 3-8 Year Old...by Linda Dobson

The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling...by Deborah Bell

There are lots of Christian based curriculums. A few are:
Abeka
Bob Jones
KONOS
Sonlight
Rod and Staff
Alpha Omega

Many of those companies will send you free catalogs. There are also LOTS of websites with lesson ideas and worksheets.

HTH!

A good place to start is http://www.hslda.org You can find out all the homeschooling laws for your state. Also, http://www.gentlemothering.com has a message board there and you can find a lot of Christian homeschoolers.
