Silly Serging But No Serge Question

I'm not a sewer. The last time I did any truly serious sewing with a machine was in 8th grade Home Ec. So please forgive this silly question. I was thinking of recycling some of my old towels or receiving blankets by making them into diaper flats or prefolds for an online charity project. (This project is also to help me make friends with my sewing machine by simply getting it out of the closet and threading it.)

I'm seeing that I need to serge the edges. I have a sewing machine, not a serger. What do I do?
