Anyone doing an IUI? - Page 3

LiamsMommy - Hope you have a low HCG number. Do you know how much clomid you'll be on? A Valentine's Day iui will be perfect !

GreenFlower - I hope your numbers are doubling. How did your test go and how are you feeling?

Kat's Mommy - So sorry to hear that you had to stop the cycle . How did your doctor's appointment go? I really hope he explains what happen and what the next step.

Pookietooth - Are you doing a iui this cycle?

I am on cd 1. I am glad that she is here. I thought I might be in limbo for a while. With the positive test and hcg at 6.56, I thought my cycle would be off this time. So this tells me "hey it did not work". AF is here a little early so I wonder if that means anything. I go in on Monday to start another cycle. Hopefully we have learned some things from this. I think I may need the progesterone shots.

We got so much snow last night and I think it will be snowing most of the day. It is so pretty out! Our puppy loves the snow. So we'll be outside soon.

Seedlings- I am so sorry.

Seedlings I'm so sorry. I did a urine test this am and it was negative, but I feel SO pregnant that it's driving me crazy. I did the blood test this am and am waiting for the results to come back. They should technically be back by 2:30, but when I did it two days ago it took an extra hour and I didn't find out until 3:30. I called at 1:00 just in case they came in earlier and the receptionist was pretty short with me and told me they'd call when they came in. It's SO annoying when they say that because they NEVER call when they come in. I'm lucky if they call me the next day :

So I'll be calling them at 2:30 whether they like it or not...if the results aren't in maybe they'll be sick of me calling and get the results in faster!

If I'm not pregnant, then I'm very sick. I'm incredibly nauseous, boobs hurt bad, fibroids in my breast have gotten bigger, I'm having to pee all the time, I'm tired, etc. We'll see.

I don't know what's going on. Blood test came back negative :

Oh no, girls. I'm so sorry to hear about your results.

Greenflower - are you on progesterone supplementation (I can't remember if you are...) If so, it mimics pregnancy symptoms. I have been on progesterone since July and every month I feel pregnant. It's such a cruel joke. Once you stop supplementing, the symptoms disappear.

Seedlings - Looks like we're cycling together this time around. Are you going to try another IUI?

Still waiting for my hCG results. It's almost quarter to five and the nurse usually calls by 3. I need to know the results because I have to start Clomid tomorrow if my hCG is low enough! This is so frustrating.

Bad news all around.

I got my hCG results...5...which is considered not pregnant. Excellent.

However, my estrogen level is sky-high (300) for CD2. The RE thinks I am about to ovulate. I am just so freaking confused. I have AF. How can I be ready to ovulate?

My temps are consistent with CD2. I ovulated last cycle on CD 18...had 13 high temps, then my temps dropped two days ago and I began to spot. Now I'm flowing regularly. WTF?

She said there is nothing to suggest that I have a tumor or anything like that. I'm just really disgusted and confused.

LiamsMommy - Wow, I am so sorry . Will you be meeting with your doctor? Maybe it's just a wonky cycle? I am :

I completely agree with you about the progesterone supplements. They are awful. But I can not figure out how af started when I was taking them. Come to think of it I can not figure out a lot of this

Stay strong ladies.

Hi everyone -

How is everyone doing?

LiamsMommy- Have you heard anything more from your RE?

Greenflower- Hope everything is going well.

Cd 5 here. According to my u/s my lining is a 12 and that is way to thick. It should be less than 5. On Thursday I will have a sono hsg done to check for polyps. My hormone levels are good so thats a plus.

I started 150 of follistim. So I am : that everything falls into place for a successful iui!

Starting Clomid and IUI

Hi all:

I'm new to this message board and thought I'd find some people going through what I am because my family just doesn't seem to get it! I'm starting clomid in a few days with my cycle and have to do an Hcg injection then will go through IUI, once I ovulate...if I ovulate. They are starting me out on 100mg of Clomid....is that a high dose or is that normal? I'm confused about this whole thing. My RE is great and came highly recommended, but I always forget to ask questions when I'm in there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

well, things have been pretty depressing in the reproductive department. I still feel angry that I felt so pregnant! I never would have told myself, my DH, etc., that I was and truly felt I was, if I didn't 99.99% believe that I was!

I didn't feel like it was hormones from the clomid or trigger shot because I didn't experience any symptoms except bloating, at all! It wasn't until last Tuesday that I really started feeling pg (this was like 10+days after trigger already). I wasn't on progesterone supplements, or I would have been prepared for it.

I think that's what was/is so hard about last cycle. If I hadn't had the complete pg symptoms, it wouldn't have been so hard to get a negative. I didn't expect to get pg the first time trying IUI and clomid.

I'm really hoping (obviously, who goes through a cycle of ttc and DOESN'T really hope this is "the one"??) this cycle works for us.

I'm on CD3 now, and am going in this afternoon for a baseline scan. I didn't have to have one last cycle cause I had had a laparoscopy. So this will be a new one. Then I get to go spend another $100+ on the clomid and trigger If this cycle is anything like the last one, I should O around the 22nd.

Anyone else doing an IUI this cycle?

Things didn't go very well for me during my last cycle. In fact, the Dr. has now said that because my LH levels were so high, and that I did not ovulate with the drugs, he is now saying I'm going to have to do IVF.

I'm sorry, Kat's. Is ivf an option for your family?

Kittkatt07 - I am so glad that you found us ! I think most doctors start out at 50 mg of clomid. Are you seeing an RE? How long have you been trying? Does the doctor know of any fertility issues you have? I did one cycle of 50 mg clomid and then one at 100 and no o for me. So now I am doing injectables. What cd are you on?

Greenflower - I am so sorry. Infertility is beyond hard since it is a roller coaster of emotions. If I can help in anyway please let me know.

Kat's Mommy - Sorry to hear about your cycle. Let us know about your ivf.

Liamsmoomy - How are you?

Cd 7 here. My sono hsg came back all clear and my lining looks good . So I will continue with the follistim and go in for bloodwork and an u/s tomorrow.

to everyone

I had my baseline scan yesterday. Everything was good. I start clomid tomorrow. 100mg again, days 5-9.

I just found out that wal-mart has clomid on their list of $4 meds!! I still have to get the trigger shot from cvs, but it will save me about $45

Kat's Mommy - what medications have you tried thus far?? Jumping to IVF because you're not ovulating seems like a big jump. IVF is not really that different then stims + IUI... the main difference is you get more eggs and see more about what's happening (and more control over tubal factors) with IVF... but IVF is what you do when stims/IUI is making too many eggs (risks for multiples) or everything seems OK but no pregnancy is occurring...

If LH is high... have you tried an FSH injectable?? I tried looking in old posts of yours and all I see mentioned is clomid... is this all you have tried?

Cloimid didn't make me ovulate. I took it at 50, 100, and 150mg - no O. It did raise my LH to even crazier levels than before, though - I have PCOS, and high LH is an indicator of that.

I then went on to have a spontanious pregnancy which I m/c'ed... and then moved on to injectables. Weird thing is my hormones were NORMAL after the m/c - didn't have the nutty high LH:FSH. But since I have PCOS in my hx I was started on an FSH injectable and I had lots of eggs and O'd every cycle but no pregnancy except for one chemical pregnancy... then I did a cycle with Femara (an oral med which sometimes works when clomid doesn't), FSH injections, and LH/FSH injections... had a m/c at 8 weeks. A cycle with just LH/FSH injections (Menopur, similar to Repronex) got me pregnant with triplets (now carrying twins)

I would think if clomid is all you have tried and it's not working... jumping to IVF is a little extreme. Clue me in if you have tried more than that!!! I would start with FSH injections and IUI...

Hey girls! Welcome to the KitKat & Runner Duck!

Sorry I've been MIA - trying to plan DS's 3rd birthday party is a full-time job, it seems!

Just a quick update on me - Got my bloodwork back this morning and my hormone levels are now appropriate for CD9. So, she gave us the go-ahead to try au naturale this cycle. I start OPKs tomorrow AM.

I'll be back later with personals!

I have only tried clomid, and I've also been diagnosed with PCOS. This is a new RE, and a new fertility clinic (I chose another location because I switched jobs).

He said that PCOS and clomid, for me, doesn't work because that is what is bringing up my LH levels.

When (hopefully) I get my next period, he wants me on the birth control pill until day 21, then something about taking puregon and lupron shots. Is this FSH injections?

He also said that at my age (4 more months until I turn 36) that I could "get away" with fertilizing one egg.

...I'm so confused. When we conceived DD it was a combo of metformin and clomid, and it was timed intercourse. I can't believe that this RE has already ruled out metformin, IUI, and now wants IVF. I just don't want to wait anymore, and I am willing to try anything...

In response to Greenflower, IVF in Canada is about $10,000. My work will cover $2400 in drugs and so will my husband's work. So, we're left to pay out $7000. Because I changed jobs, my mat leave benefits are paid out at 93% for the entire year...so, I'll actually be making money this mat leave (unlike my first mat leave, where we put ourselves in $25K debt because my work did not top up any of the salary...we're STILL paying it off...but in the end, it was totally worth it because I have a beautiful daughter.

Best of luck to everyone!

Puregon is the same as follistim, I think, which is an FSH med. Follistim, Gonal-F, Bravelle - they are all FSH injectables.

The BCPs then lupron then purgeon sounds like the IVF protocol... lupron puts your body in a sort of chemical menopause so the medications have total control over what is going on. Not usually used for an IUI alone cycle. The goal with IVF is to get way more eggs than with an IUI...

I am wondering... with PCOS the risk of multiples is higher. It took me 7 (I think) rounds of injectables to get pregnant and when I finally did it was with triplets - I was heavily pressured to reduce to twins, and did, and it has been horrible. Every single cycle I over responded to the meds and every single cycle I got the "how do you feel about reduction?" talk and
every single cycle I said I would reduce quads or more but wasn't sure about triplets. Secretly wanted triplets - but was scared out of my mind once I got pregnant with them, which is what the doctors want. Anyway I am wondering if there is a chance your doctor fears over-response and thinks going right to IVF is best for you to avoid the risk of multiples? We balked at IVF because insurance covered out injectables/IUI 100% but not a dime towards IVF. In retrospect the money paid for IVF would have been worth it to save me the heartache of the reduction - and had we been paying for IUI out of pocket it may have been cheaper to do IVF anyway. Figuring $4000/cycle for injectables (avg. here) we'd have been out about 30k...

I guess really there's pros and cons to jumping right to IVF. The cost is a lot and there's a chance injectables/IUI may help... but the chances of success are higher with IVF and there is less risk of multiples... I would want to pin the doctor down for a straight answer on why he wants to jump right to it, though.

eta - I also have PCOS - my son was a total shock conception, I was on BCPs to control the PCOS! It's ludicrous what it took for me to get pregnant successfully again...
