Dillards Employee, inappropriate? UPDATE POST #29

So shortly after Christmas I was at Dillards in Chesapeake VA looking at shoes. Little Aidan needed to nurse so I just did it, no thought my baby was hungry so I was going to feed him.

Well my mom walked up to him and was asking him for my size and he says, "Man I wish I was that baby..."

My mom was rather upset, mostly because of the tone he used, it wasn't like, "Yeah that baby is getting the best milk" it was dirty sounding. My mom stole the shoe back and said, "Nevermind, we don't want it anymore..." Walked to another sales person asked for his help, and to speak to the dept manager.

Nothing really came of it...but I have to say, I was really sad to see what happened and how it didn't seem like anything or anyone cared that he was IMO inappropriate.

Yes. No one, including retail employees, has the right to sexually harrass their customers.

Greenbrier or Chesapeake Square? I hardly go into Dillards anymore because the prices are too high for my budget. I think you did the right thing by speaking to the manager. I'm not sure if they work on commission or not, so it may not have made a difference to anyone's bottom line that you went ot another sales person. But if that guy makes any more sexually harassing comments to other customers they will have it on record. I know it doesn't do anything for your situation, but it may help if this guy pulls this again. If you want to organize a nurse in, let us know.

It was the Dillards actually at MacArthur Center...I got my cities mixed up! I don't know if a nurse in is needed, but if I email Dillards and I don't have a good response...then OH YEA!

I dont think this would be grounds for a nurse in, he did not try to interefere w/ the breastfeeding. Its more a sexual harassment issue and definitely needs to be brought to the attention of the store.

definitely sexual harassment.

I used to work at Dillards, and the shoe department does work on comission, so atleast he lost your sale. I would definitely email their main headquarters so there will atleast be a record of his sexual harrassment.

WAIT, are you sure that he KNEW you were nursing? once i had my ds in a baby bjorn and he was snuggled up against my chest sleeping and a cashier said, "I'd love to change places with him." Then a few seconds later got really red and said, " I mean because he's sleeping, i'm sorry if that came out wrong." So i wonder is it possible that he just thought that your baby was snuggly or sleeping in your arms?

Definitely inappropriate..... although I've often had men say "what a lucky baby!" when my DS was sleeping in the ergo... and I would say "thanks" then after the fact I thought, "wait a minute... did they mean because his face was resting on my boobs??"

If the Dillard's guy was being perverted, how stupid to make that comment to your MOTHER. WTF was he thinking?!

1. How disgusting. I would have reported him to the STORE (not department) manager immediately. Don't e-mail. Go back to the store and ask one of the cashiers near the front entrance to speak with the store manager. If you don't get any satisfaction, go to the DM or corporate.

2. If you have little kids, the clearance rack is the best place to get clothes. My BF is constantly getting STEALS - frilly dresses for $3 and the cutest little outfits for her boy for $2.50-$4.00

What he said washorrible, but it should be up to the woman affected weather or not we at MDC raise a stink about it with emails or a nurse in or any other such thing.

A nurse-in is completely inappropriate in this situation. This was clearly sexual harassment.

Being a lactivist doesn't mean that you jump to protest whenever an opportunity presents itself. Nurse-ins totally lose their power when they're used frivolously.

There is nothing about this situation that would warrant a nurse-in...but you bet your butt I'd be calling the home office to file a formal complaint.
