Dillards Employee, inappropriate? UPDATE POST #29 - Page 2

Wow. Yuck. I would find a manager and explain the situation-- the guy said X, I may have misunderstood him, but he seemed to be making a sexual comment. I think this is important because, 1) there may he a history of problems with this guy, and yours should be added to his tally, or, 2) he may, as pps have said, have made an honest, foot-in-mouth mistake. Either way, I think it should be brought to his attention so he is more careful in the future.

Either way-- update us!

You know, I'd assume he didn't mean anything by it. As PPs mentioned, we've often heard remarks like that when the person assumes the baby is sleeping. I'd let it go.

My DH just told me that while I was at work (as a breastfeeding peer counselor) that they called from Dillards! He (boneheadly) didn't take a message but told them I would be home soon. I have caller ID and there is a number but I don't want to call it back just yet KWIM?

It was really obvious what I was doing b/c I had to take my DS out of the Ergo (he had been on my back) to nurse him. And it wasn't so much what he said, but the tone in which it was said, you could tell it was making BFing sexual.

I'll keep ya'll informed

Ewwwwwwww! I had a guy totally trying to catch a peek at an airport once when I was nursing DD, you know when they don't mean it in a good way, you just get that feeling.

This is a sexual harassment issue, but I also think there is a lactivist component as well. It all falls back to why so many people are uncomfortable with NIP, they see the breasts as sexual, and not for feeding babies. That being said, I don't think a nurse in is warranted.

I sure hope you get some response from the store!!!

Had you already repoted the incident at that time, or did Dillard's take the initiative?

This is totally gross. I am SO sorry!

I spoke to the store manager at Dillards last night. He was so upset about the comment made by the employee, saying "that is just not the way we do business here." He said that today he would be pulling the store records to find out who was working (as I gave him a pretty pin point description) to find out the employees name.

He said he would call me today (tues.)

Last night at about 5 I got a call from the store manager at Dillards. He said my description was perfect and knew exactly who it was so he took him into his office and spoke to him about the incident. The empolyee immediately knew who he was talking about and the situation and willingly admitted to what happend. He was written up and placed on probation...Also employees will be trained so that this never happen again. I didn't get his email or anything, but was very thankful at how he clearly stated to me..."That is not how we do business here at Dillards!"

It sounds like they took the situation seriously.

Awesome. I love it when a company takes a complaint seriously.
