Tell me about the HCG shot

Tomorrow's my last day of Clomid 50mg.

Tuesday I go in for the follicle screening, and then they're going to give me the HCG shot.

Tell me about the shot. What exactly does it do? What side effects can I expect to feel from it? I know my dr. could answer all these, but I don't wanna wait until Tuesday to know.

Also, I had to get the prescription for the shot filled myself, and then I bring it to the dr. on Tuesday. I opened the box and there are two huge, very full vials in there. Is that WHOLE THING going in my butt???? I'm terrified of shots, and then my DH freaked me out even more by telling me how hard it is to get the needle into your butt because of the thickness, etc., etc. Makes me want to :Puke just thinking about it!

Thanks!!

I believe the HCG shot releases any mature follicles you have.

I don't know how it feels...my doc didn't give me a trigger shot. But I did get pregnant on 50 mg Clomid! Good luck!

What was the reason your dr. didn't give you the trigger shot? Or, what are the reasons a doctor would give someone a trigger shot?

Thank you!

My doc wanted me to try one cycle to see if I would get pregnant on my own without trigger, to see if my egg/eggs would release on their own. It actually took me until CD 21 to ovulate. I think if your follicles are mature enough, it's fine to go ahead with the trigger shot. Some people's follies grow but don't release for some reason.

When I did my rx cycles 6 years ago the RE used the HCG shot to release the eggs that were ready.

Sorry to say, but it's a pretty nice size needle, goes in the muscle in the hip and is not too comfortable. I recommend you lay down, puts less stress on the area, try to warm the spot a bit before. I was so used to shots at that point I didn't notice one more. We had gone through 2 months of daily shots in hip and 2 weeks in stomach along with the HCG shot.

Hang in there. It's one shot and you are after a goal, so keep your eyes on the prize!! While you are getting the shot think BABY BABY BABY!!

Good luck and best of luck to you!!!

wow. yuck. I'm so nervous about the shot. I know I sound like a baby compared to those who are doing daily shots, but shots really make me so sick and nervous!

How long does it take for them to give you the shot? It lookes like a lot of stuff that they're going to put in me and I know some shots they just shoot it in real fast, and others they have to put some in, let it sit, put more in, let it sit, etc. So is it going to be fast??

It's a pretty fast shot, but like PP said, it's not v. fun. My DH had to do mine. He was so nervous!!

yeah, my DH was very glad when I told him that the nurse would be doing the shot at my follicle screening!

I conceived DD the first time we did the trigger shot I was nervous about it too. I remember feeling like it was no big deal immediately afterwards. It can cause typical pregnancy symptoms (it is hcg afterall). Also, it can cause false positives on pg tests (as they test for hcg). Good luck :

My poor sister just had to give HERSELF this shot. That was tough. Bring something to squeeze, look the other way and think HAPPY EGGS.
All the best to you!

My trigger shot was sub-q so a small needle. (this was for IVF though)

I didn't notice anything...no side effects.

The hCG shot is to force the ovaries to release the mature follicles. If the hormones are not just right, the ovaries won't release them on their own.

I get the shot in my stomach, and the needle is only about 1 inch long and quite small. It doesn't really hurt, and my DH has had to give it to me twice.

The 2 vials in my box, one of them is a powder, one is sterile water. They draw 2 ccs of sterile water, mix it into the powder and draw 1 cc of the mix and that's the injection, so it's not that much.

As for side effects... itching at the injection site is my big one. But then the next 2 weeks I pretty much have early pg symptoms... tender breasts, nausea, sensitive to smells, etc.

HTH

thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying not to dwell on it...trying to think about it as no big deal. It's always worse in your head than it actually is, right? Once it's done you always think, "now what was I so worried about?!?", right??? :
