Help me not waste my squash seeds

I'm thinking there must be something nutritious and yummy I can do with the seeds I scoop out of an acorn or butternut squash. Can anyone give me a tutorial of how to prep them / what to do with them?

Thanks.

rinse off the stringy stuff

mix with oil and salt

bake in the oven until they're toasty

Mmm... I'll have to try that. I just keep hoping I'll get stray squash plants in my compost

We actually DO get stray squash plants in the compost, LOL! But I don't stay on top of them and they are usually decimated by borers. Not this time of year, though.

Any ideas how to get the stringy stuff off more easily? If I soak them, does that help?

Thanks!

I soak the seeds in slat water just like making crispy nuts the NT way.

If I have a bunch left over I will grind them in the processor and use the "flour" for cooking like in salmon patties, etc.

As for the stringy stuff, I don't have a magic process. You just have to pick it off.

It's generally easier to push the seeds out of the string stuff (and into a colander or clean bowl) than it is to take the stringy stuff off the seeds.
