How to dry orange peels? (homemade potpourri)

I have this very small potpourri crock pot and I had an idea to do dried orange peels (since my kids eat a lot of oranges) and throw in a cinnamon stick. Maybe buying some whole cloves too. I'm wondering if this is a good mixture to do and also how to properly dry out the orange peels. In my house and this climate I'm pretty sure they'll start to mold if I just try to leave them out. I do have an electric plug in heater but is that totally wastful (as wasteful as plugging in a little crockpot for potpourri? ).

Ideas would be appreciated.

My grandmother used to make just the mixture you were talking about and it smelled wonderful.

Could you put them on a cookie sheet when you are pre-heating an oven? Or even do a dedicated oven session at 175 degrees or so and do a big batch?

Thank you for your reply. That is a great idea and I'm glad to you know that your grandmother used to make it and it smelled great. I can't wait. I'll post again and let you know how it turned out.

I dried mine in the oven on 175 and it worked great. I boiled them in a pot with a few cloves and a cinnamon stick--great smell plus some added humidity to our super-dry house.

i put some on top of the oven while i was cooking food in it. it worked pretty well. then i tossed them in the trash can under the bag. lol. I should throw in some cinnamon!

This is a great idea!!!!! I think I'll try boiling them on our woodstove this winter and then try drying them out in the summer.

Yep, my parents did this every winter because the air was so dry. The smell always brings me back home!
