Midwives/doulas with small children question

How do you deal with childcare? I want so badly to be a doula, but I just can't figure out how to arrange childcare while I'm gone. My fiance works a 10.5 hour shift, and it's an afternoon shift. He leaves at 11:30am. So if I were called away during the night (after 11pm), he'd be home, but if I didn't get back before he had to leave for work, I'm just not sure what we'd do with dd. My mom lives close by, but she works. I also have friends close by, but they have their own schedules, children and responsibilities.

So how do you work your schedules and arrange for childcare working in an on-call field?

I have a list of friends that are close or semi-close by so if I get called I go down the list until I can find someone! This is the part that gives me anxiety. Then I have to make sure the older one is picked up at Kindergarten etc. Talking to some friends before hand and their flexibility and explaining your situation helps. Finding a college student that has some day availability then you mother could come over after work. I try to ask a few friends what's you schedule like this week if I have 2 people due etc.
